    Federer withdrew

    citing the back injury

back or no back, I'm pretty sure he was going to lose, and he probably knew it as well

Did the books pay out if you took Djokovic ML -350 before match? Think it would be void me thinks.

I still see France +160/+150 at a couple of books that still have these odds available.

it was a fitting end to what was perhaps the worst ATP Finals ever.

Season is too long. That has some to do with how terrible the end of the year after the US Open normally is. This year in general though, you saw how fragile guys are who overschedule. Guys would do well to look at how Djokovic and Federer run their seasons.

Younger guys who are now in the Top 10 have to learn how to manage their seasons so as to not be burnt out in September and October. Guys who are ranked in the Top 30 or so need to start skipping all 250 level events. There is no point to them playing in those for the most part.

US Open was very strange too, with the finals somehow being Nishikori/Cilic

Fed is usually an ace to manage his season program but here I think he made a mistake not withdrawn from Paris. Shanghai, Basel, Paris, Masters and DC was clearly too much, he should have taken the 10 days break and give up the Nr.1 place

Indeed. Weather had a bit to play with that, but Djokovic was the one who looked worn out by the heat whereas that has not been an issue for him in many years.

he didn't have a choice because he really wanted to be 1 again and this was probably his last chance. I doubt he'll pass Djokovic next year.

So he played more tournaments than he might have otherwise.

I agree with you. I also think that the dudes that make the semis of a 250 should not be able to play in a 250 the next week. The distribution of the price money should also be different in a 250. More money needs to flow down to the early rounds to give up and comers a chance to stay in the game long enough to have a chance to break in. Money should also come out of the 500 and 1000's and should be used awarded at the challenger level.

That's why some train in Florida to sustain that heat I guess... Like Williams sis, Serena looks top notch through the hottest temperature in NY
