Nadal's out of the US Open

From his Facebook page just now -

I am very sorry to announce I won’t be able to play at this year’s US Open a tournament on which I’ve played 3 consecutive finals in my last participations. I am sure you understand that it is a very tough moment for me since it is a tournament I love and where I have great memories from fans, the night matches, so many things… Not much more I can do right now, other than accept the situation and, as always in my case, work hard in order to be able to compete at the highest level once I am back.

Pretty much expected this when he delayed his decision last Friday. Well Ithought Wimbledon was Roger's best/last chance to get another Slam. This has to be a great shot, but I do wonder if Fed will feel a bit more pressure now as he has to be considered the favorite based on play or at least 1b with Djokovic. Tend to think Djokovic could be energized with this news too. Mentally though. I still wonder if his real life is not distracting him of late.

Oh really? So if the AUS open champ sudden lye found form, you wouldn't be worried.

Murray, Tsonga, Berdych and Wawrinka are all challenge for Federer if they can play their best tennis! draw will be important imo

I think a lot of guys can challenge. Without Rafa and with Murray not nearly in form, a couple of the quarters could go to the most opportunistic player. This year more than others, I think you need to see the draw first. Going to be a lot of names in parts we have not been used to seeing.

Milos will win his first grand slam if it's not Djok. Mark my words.

Probably not a bad bet, unless he has to play Feds.

Federer destroyed Milos a few days ago. Why do you think he has a better chance than Federer??

The giraffe just needs to calm down when he gets into the later rounds of the big tourney. That is his issue. He has to learn to take a little off the 1st serve so he is serving in the 65 to 75% range instead of his normal 50% to 60% range. He would probably have around the same % won on 1st serve if he took a little off due to the court speed.

raonic always seems to be exposed when he meets a more seasoned/savvy player in the later rounds of a tourny...

groundstrokes/overall game just isn't there to make a real run, and if he has an off-day w/ the serve, he's very beatable

This is why I harp on seeing the draws before investing. Good points made about match-ups .Draw for the best player could be rough, while someone like Milos gets good matchups am by the way.

If Joker keeps cream puffing topspin during rallies he won't make the Semis.
