    Boner

When you get a chance, if you don't mind, please start up a WTA thread for the Aussie Open to get a discussion going. I already locked my picks in for it and capped it, have not gotten to the ATP side yet.

Outside of the first three listed, I'd say Tsonga as the best longshot possibility based on price. He still has to put it all together. Won't make any futures bets until they play a couple tourneys in Australia before the big one and of course when the draws come out.

Soderling is someone you should watch carefully early in 2010. He may have made his step forward to stay or he could be in Gilles Simon mode, fading back into Top 20-ish or so, but never a big threat again. Soderling has the game to stay up in the Top 10, but it'll be interesting to see how he reacts to being the hunted rather than the hunter.

I had my moments in tennis, had plenty too where I couldn't pick a winner if you gave me the final score.

Safina is out of the Brisbane warmup event. Her AO is definitely in jeopardy.

i would like tsonga to win too...if he gets into a lot of long matches I don't think he is in as good shape as a few of the top 3 or 4 guys.

    ^^^this.

I have some early leans, but I'm waiting to bet any real money until after the draw is announced.

Brisbane in a week. Looking at the current AO futures I have a couple small plays that have moved against me but a majority of the plays have moved in my favor (Roddick and Monfils most notably). I wish I had got a piece of Gonzo earlier but cest la vie. Anyone hear any news or new information about off-season changes/training?

Agreed on waiting till the draw is out. Taking futures without knowing where players are put is most likely going to turn into a losing proposition for you. Be patient and wait. You might lose a little on prices, but gain a wealth in being able to look at where the tournament might go.

Nobody mention Davydenko who had excellent finish to 09, +2200 worth a shot.

I feel like Davydenko has a shot but is fairly priced.

Funny to see Gasquet at +40000 here, i wanted to take him last night at +21000. I think his suspension made him focus on his game. In the peak in mid '07-mid '08 he was beating top players and was ranked 7. Think he got into the party/celeb scene and got distracted.

Anyone else taking any futures based on the draw?

I like Djokovic's chances this year. He has a decent draw and I would be surprised if he doesn't make the SF.

Andy Murray at +600 is a nice play I think. If his head is on straight, he's in a bracket that is winnable due to injury concerns with Monfils and Nadal's own possible psychological problems with winning right now. With DelPo's draw being the one that matches up against this one for the semis, Nadal or Murray should be in the final. You obviously don't want to play both in the same draw to win, so I'd say playing the better odds for Murray gives you a hedge shot beginning in the 4th round with Isner or Monfils. By default, getting God (Federer) at +275 in a major is a marvelous play. In the past, he'd get even money at best. He's got a tricky spot here and there, but his pedigree against a guy like Davydenko who seems to be the flavor of the month (never made a major final) is hard to overlook. Looking at Murray and Fed as my futures plays most likely. Dark horse play for shits at long shot price - ARod at +2000 or Soderling at +3000.

Just saw the women's draw. Wow, Henin-Dement in the 2nd round. Wickmayer, Clijsters, and KSveta all in that same quarter.

    Serena-Azarenka redux?

    Interesting.

Liked the way Roddick looked in his 1st round match.. Have him at +4000, liking this to at least take some value out in the 1/4s or so.

Safina has a great draw. Maybe worth a bet, then hedge.

As for men, I have zero faith in Tsonga. May be wrong but will be lucky to make his way through quarters.

alona bondarenko just won the tourney before this, and is in a winnable bracket, sharapova is gone and you can never trust safina.I agress safina has great value, but 150-1 at the greek and possibly more at 5 dimes is worth a shot to hedge it later on.
