Davis Cup 2014. Who can topple Switzerland?

    Odds of 1.80 - 2.20 atm.

    France most likely finalists.

Fed and Wawa teamed up at IW for DC no doubt. Made the semi's. Will be hard to beat for sure given Fed's resurgence and Wawa's improved mental strength.

Monfils is stronger this year but France will still likely trust Gasquet and Tsonga in a DC final. Both currently in poor form.

bh it would be interesting seeing Monfils replace Gasquet. Fully focussed, a French partisan crown, and an insanely hungry Monfils and you have yourself a Joker in the pack. He can be dangerous for sure and I actually think he could be a weapon as soon as he gets over his obvious usual choke at some point in the match.

Britain may get the two wins if last years Andy Murray turns out. But I struggle to see them win.

    Thoughts?

The final will take place at the end of the year.Till then many things can change.Berdych can always beat Federer and Wawrinka if these 2 are not in a good shape.Same thing can happen if Tsonga recovers his best form.

Tsonga/Mahut/Llodra vs. Fed/Waw can go either way
Berdych/Stepanek vs. Fed/Waw can go either way, too.

Current odds are fair, i guess Swiss team has about 40-50 % chance of winning DC in 2014.

Berdych skipping Davis cup this year. So czechs will play mots likely with Stepanek/Rosol. Or Rosol/Vesely.

    This.

    ---

Also, just realised many probably don't follow Davis Cup as closely and therefore don't know the draw.

    http://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-res...rld-group.aspx

So the Swiss huge favourites in their Quarters and Semi match. France easy odds on favourites in both Ties.

Also Germany @ 3.45 (to beat France) isn't too shabby either. I know Philipp has been pretty woeful this year but when I watched him during the first tie against Bautista-Agut on Indoor Hard he was bloody fantastic.

    That's the thing.

Who are the biggest dangers in Davis Cup?

    Czechs
    Spaniards
    Serbs

    All

    OUT.

    Hence the odds.

Does anyone know who'll have home-court in the Swiss potential matches?

It doesn't really matter because they're close to walkovers.

What's important though is that France would have the home court advantage if they both meet in the final.

Swiss potential matches includes the final. Thank you for revealing that information despite your misunderstanding.

Do you know how that matter is decided? DC rules are one big cluster-penetrate.

Ho-hum. Oh yes indeedioes how quite right you are.

Anyway my point was that the Swiss could play on any surface and still smash Kazakhstan.

Not sure on Davis Cup rules. I don't even bother. The site is rubbish too. But I do know from a reliable source France will be at Home.

    No worries.

So it seems like no one really follows Davis Cup properly.

Anyway for what it's worth here are the h2h odds for the Quarters in 2.5 weeks time.

I have a lot of money on Switzerland, but it sucks that it's locked up for such a long time.

Bets that aren't decided for a long time should come with better lines: Inflation, time-value, opportunity-cost and all that shit... Somebody call Mr. Ex. Squirrel!

Tell me about it! How much is a lot? I have $830 odd @ odds of 10.0.

Anyway Davis Cup Quarters in a few days.

Gasquet has pulled out for France.

Well I have two bets on Switzerland outright totalling roughly 1000$ in stakes, at odds of @ 3.4.

Good bet. Guessing that was in the days after Fed was announced? It recall they were around that price but it was pretty obvious they'd fall to around the evens mark after their near walkover tie against Serbia. Given their draw of course.

Obviously I got lucky and pounced the second I saw Wawrinka Tweet the photo of him and Federer with the "look who I found comment" in Serbia.

The bookmaker closed my account days later.

Stan is definitely not the man. He is the Sam Stosur of men's tennis. Can't play in front of his own Country.

Market saying Switzerland wins from this position almost 3/4 times... I guess the market hasn't taken Stanislas into account.

Not full sure France will make it yet.

Benneteau is 0-12 in ATP Finals.

What does that tell you? The Davis Cup Captain must be a real idiot not to see Benne has the most horrid record under pressure.

Yet to win a title. Last year in KL I watched as he had match point (against J.Sousa - a clay mug) on indoor hard.. only to lose it, and then crumble.

    Pretty huge oversight though.

Are you laying off at all Hc?

Thinking about sacrificing 1K and sticking it on Kukuskin @ odds of 8.0 for tomorrow. The guy can most definitely play and Stan is a total mental wreck out there.
