Do's & Don'ts of tennis betting for newbies

    Don't
-bet the 1st round of a tournament

    Don't
    -bet on the WTA

    Don't
    -bet on any french players

    Don't
-bet on any lines greater than +250(do over +200 sparingly)

    Don't
-bet more than 2% of your bankroll on any one match

    Do
-follow EP's thread-he gives great insight into how you the newbie should be thinking about these tennis matches

    Do
-tail Matt on his big bets(at least until he cools off)

    Do
-be selective with your betting-just because there are odds given on a match does not mean you need to bet said match

    Bon chance bitches!!!!

    Don't have rules.

Think indepedent to each event and tournament.

    Don't hold grudges

Don't look at rankings. (Too much)

Don't treat all tournaments the same. Level of effort/motivation varies drastically between 250/500/1000+ point events. If you want to bet on Top 20 players with confidence, stick to the 500+ point events for the most part.

    Do watch the damn matches.

Don't live bet, unless you know what you are doing.

That's not strictly true. Player's ranked between 10-20 are realistic about their chances in 500+ point events and if they see a good-looking draw are out to capitalise.

You shouldnt limit yourself by not betting the WTA. That in itself is a noobie mistake.

There is plenty of value in the WTA, equal to the ATP, you just have to do your due diligence and look hard enough instead of throwing darts.

Point being, those Top 20 players generally have their sights set higher than nickel & diming their way up, having already likely won their share of lower level tourneys. It's just as common for one of those players to suffer an inexplicable first/second round exit when their real objective was just to get in a game or two so as to be better prepared for the more important tournament the following week.

There's definitely situational angles (weak draw, returning champ, etc) that override at times to result in strong showings.
