Hi,
Don't put too much importance in reading sports handicapping books.
Instead, use that time to sharpen up on your sports skills. Read more about the players and tournaments, surfaces, etc.....It will do you more good than reading those books. It will help you get a feel for the matches. Also try to specialize and bet on only one or two sports at the maximum.
If you're down to only $500 remaining, don't bet big. Try to get on a winning streak of 4 or 5 games straight before you start betting more than one unit. Stay away from parlays until you built your bankroll to a good size(over 30 units positive).
To be successful, you need to have a love for that sport you bet on. Tennis is a tough sport to bet on blindly. You have to like the sport and expect to spend a good amount of time watching videos of previous matches. Youtube is a great place for this. This helps you get a good feel for the player's upcoming matches and can also help find betting opportunities that the books have missed. You should know every player in the top fifty and all their nuances, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are not familiar with all the players, try following maybe 3 players for that week and bet strictly on or against just that player for that week.
Before laying out my tennis bets for the day, I spend about 2 hrs looking and comparing data. I also watch replays of the player's previous matches over the last month. I have a slight advantage due to being a former tennis player (played at the collegiate level) thus I can spot weaknesses in form sometimes that books often miss.
I wish you the best of luck for the remaining season.
