    Live dog tonight

Roberta Vinci. 16th ranked woman in the world against an unseeded Elena Vesnina, currently see Vinci listed at +115 at 5dimes. She's ranked #1 in the world in doubles right now, so we already know she has top 8 overall talent she just spreads it out over single and doubles. Vesnina did just beat the 21st seed, but I think Vinci who hasn't lost a set in either single or doubles competition takes it to her and wins tonight.

Full disclosure: Had Vinci as part of a parlay the other night so I watched her match against Amanmuradova and she looked good against an overmatched player.

So you guys tell me why the unseeded player is a slight favorite, even if this match is a coin flip... why the 16th ranked player isn't highly favorite???

Because sportsbooks and tennis bettors are smarter than to look at a player's ranking. She should be the favourite... when she's in form as she is now she plays as sharp as a razor. Doesn't tend to lose the plot either. She's also beat Vinci every time on this surface. But I like Vinci's work ethic... the only thing I worry about is that she's still in doubles where she can progress much farther than in the singles = more cash. Price is about right but I'll probably make a small play on Vinci when I'm there. Depends on how she looks though.

My uneducated guess is because of the doubles. Vinci is ranked #1 so a lot of her effort is put into those matches. If you're good at something you don't mind putting everything else on the backburner. She's also 29 which is up there in years for a tennis player. She's not expected to win this thing, but anything less than a doubles final birth would be a big disappointment, I think odds makes know this and set the line accordingly. From my limited knowledge it seems Vinci today is by far the more talented player.
