Isner had the one blip early against Klizan and since that match hasn't even offered a break point. Doesn't mean it won't happen today, but if you don't even get a break point - you're going to have to beat Isner in a tie break, which is right up his alley. 4-0 vs. Tsonga in tie breaks.
Not sure I see where Tsonga is really playing great tennis this tournament. He did the bare minimum as usual against lesser opponents in Bellucci & Stakhovsky and let Staks stick around way too long. Granollers was ready to pack his shit up yesterday and looked the part. Anyone who played him yesterday would have gotten a similar scoreline. Not saying he doesn't have a chance or anything like that, but any notion that this is much more than a toss-up seems misguided to me.
Motivation for me is with Isner who is defending his title points this week. Tsonga still a question mark as to if he wants to keep pushing through the weekend or get ready for the US Open.
Said it to begin this tournament, if he wanted to contend this week - he definitely could, but this is the match to me where you find out what Tsonga wants. Up to this point, he didn't have to do much more than show up with a decent serve.
