Smart move on his part. Careers are long-term and missing a few majors to heal will help in the long run.

His knees won't hold up enough to catch Fed. Not to mention he has to go through Joker and Murray.

wow, Federer's anus is singing and dancing and staying out late tonite!!!

w/ Rafa out of the picture, hell, Fed has the ability to win the next 5 slams... and that aint no joke. if Rafa were out of the FO 2013, Fed could sweep 6 majors in a row.

extremely unlikely, but w/ Rafa out of the picture.... Fed's anus is no longer puckering in fear.

Fed must be on cloud 9 right now

nadal is a clay plant. he cant win a sh*t on grass/hard courts lately. he always complaints about his knee, how old are you? 50, 60? you're just 26 and you're complaining about your knee. And, surprisingly, every season his knee is healed thru the start of Roland Garros. What a joke.

lol @ guys posting on the internet bashing a guy for having knee problems.

I used to catch (you got jokes?) when I wasn't pitching and my knees are pretty banged up. I mean I can do what I need to do but playing a tennis tournament would probably be tough for anyone with any kind of knee problems.

    Unreal.

I support Nadal on such decision. He really puts the pressure on his body like no one else does, so he deserves such breaks.

I support Nadal for doing what he has to do in order to be in the best spot for his career.

However, it shows his shortcomings as a tennis player and weighs heavily against him in any analysis of his ranking in the history books. His game is all out play, not gamesmanship but brute force. He digs out every point, doesn't think about shot selection and positioning and as a dirrect result of that style his career has been and will be further shortened. People will always include him in "the discussion" with the caveat "if it weren't for injuries" and thats wrong. Aside from his obvious position as a top 2 clay court player he is simply a break-neck speed player who deliberately sold his health for a brief, albiet memorable, flare out career on hard courts.

    Boner that's a little inaccurate.

Nadal is already one of the greatest players ever. There's no way he is done winning majors at 26 years old. He has a couple left in him. He can get knee surgery if needed and will still be able to compete if he modifies his game a bit which he's certainly capable of given his strength and mental focus.

Don't forget Nadal has been in the picture for what, almost 10 years now, man. It's not like he was good for a couple years and that's it.

It's not over for Nadal, you'll see. I remember that guy Hoopster telling me it was over for federer about 2-3 years ago when I first joined here. I should bump that thread. Let's see if I can find it.

you do realize Fed was in 18 of out of 19 GRAND SLAM FINALS.... from Wimbly 05 to Aussie 10

that is an amazing stat that will never be equalled. essentially, you can almost always pencil Fed into the semis of a slam even today. w/ Nadal out, there is really no man he fears. on his best day he can beat everybody on tour in all surfaces and he knows it

No way in hell he win the next 6 major or whatever you said

Djokovic is still a better player

What does his run of gs finals have to do with anything

It's 2012 and fed has never won even 4 straight majors let alone 6

18 of 19 slam finals in a row... think about that. you can argue that Fed is better than Djoker right now

and out of those 18 finals...... Rafa knocked him out 6 out of 7 times. take away Rafa and Fed would've only lost 1 slam final in approx 5 years

    Rafa is the key

I never said he would win 6 finals in a row... but although it is extremely unlikely, in a world w/o Rafa.... Fed could get it done. w/o Rafa around he can definitely hit 6 finals in a row. and from there anything is possible

even to this day, he is in slam semis basically 90% of the time.

only missed the slam semis 3 times since 2004 FO .... think about that.

Rafa is such a huge ingredient..... you're basically taking away the #1 threat and allowing Fed to be more productive.

all in all, in Rafa weren't around for the next 5 slams..... I'd say Roger is in the finals 4 of 6 times (including this year's Wimbly)
