Donald Young has not won an ATP match
since the first round in Memphis, in February.
15 losses consecutively.
Yet, he still ranks (84) and has a record on Hard
of 101-68 since 2008.
4/5 of his most recent losses were on his worst
surface, Grass.
6/15 of his losses were on Clay, his 2nd worse
surface.
In Atlanta, a few weeks ago, he took a Set from
Steve Johnson.
His level of competition is very high. Look at the
names he has lost to, they are top tier.
Still, 9 of his 15 losses involve either a Set win
or a tiebreaker.
Jeremy Chardy ranks (47). He is 45-43 on Hard,
and 78-50 on Clay. Hard is not his favorite.
In Washington, he was manhandled by Malisse,
6-3/6-2. Washington was Chardy's first matches
on Hard in months. Before losing to Malisse,
he struggled to defeat Vasselin, 3-6/7-6(3)/6-4.
Vasselin ranks 100.
Injuries are not a factor, with neither having
one in a long time.
Young is 23, Chardy is 25.
Young is Left, Chardy is Right.
Chardy is only 1-2 vs. Lefties.
Year-to-Date, Chardy is 1-4 on Hard, but
12-8 on Clay.
Young is coming off a FR loss in Olympics to
Seppi, 4-6/4-6, it is surprising he managed to
take 8 games against Seppi on Grass, Young's
worst surface.
The match is on a neutral facility, Young USA
and Chardy France, being played in Toronto.
Young has a colorful and controversial past.
He was discovered as a youth and mentored by
McEnroe, but has had issues with USTA, concerning differences of opinion on training between USTA and his
parents. Last year there was a twitter tirade
he had to apologize for.
