yes, o/c, but basing it on Fed's history and the structure of the match... b/c if Fed had won the set ... would've only lost on a breadstick in the 3rd (extremely unlikely especially w/ M serving first)

and, o/c, M winning the 2nd set (which I fully did not expect)... Fed would need to turn on the juice in the 3rd and 4th and blast thru M like Shaq pumping a ballerina

If he somehow won this, I'd put this up there with a Serena level of upset. He was a dog against Roddick and even bloody Klizan. To take out Fed at a Slam would be monumental, especially since Mahut isn't a clay court player at all.

I don't think he's going to win ... But Federer is playing poorly enough for something crazy to happen. If Mahut starts to commit more unforced errors and plays a little more like Mahut, it'll probably be enough for Fed to take this in four sets. It's kind of tough to watch Fed play like this when you know he can be so much better.

I'm not counting Mahut out easily but I do think Fed is sleepwalking. Doing shit like he did in his last match when he dropped a set to Ungur. I'm glad he didn't drop the 1st set today cause I had Fed to win the 1st set. Glad 5dimes didn't have a 3-0 set prop cause I would have lost.

Did you guys hear that stat? Fed's only ever retired twice in a match. Guy's played over 1k matches. That's amazing considering you get these ding dongs who retire every 2mths.

I thought he actually retired never. Didn't greg have a stat on that?

I cant remember an in-match retirment.

I don't remember him retiring ever either but then again I haven't watched 1100 matches of his. I'm going to check OnCourt to see if they were years ago because I'm curious now.

Mahut should've had that last game, but the errors are starting to build on him ... Federer can cruise through the rest of this set.

I think it's just two withdrawals before the matches began. I specifically remember him withdrawing from an event in January.

I think those announcers stated it wrong accidentally. He has retired in tourneys twice but they were walkovers. Once against Blake in '08 in Paris and once in Doha in Jan this year against Tsonga.

just need 2 games by M here in 4th

    serving 1st

a hold to start it and I think this is almost 99.99%... as Fed would have to win 6 games in a row. rare feat for him on clay

Federer is playing poorly, and Mahut isn't playing poorly enough for Fed to cruise. This is going to be an epic upset. I'm absolutely stunned by this.

Mahut will not win. I'm willing to give 500 points to anyone willing to put up 2. It just won't happen although I'd love to see it.

Wow ... That was the best game Federer has played all match. He seems determined to end this in four sets.

This is exactly what Agassi was talking about in that interview after he wrote his book when he was asked what he noticed the most between when he was a top player and when he went back down to the Challengers. He said that when you're one of the best, you have the luxury of choosing when and how to play. And about how all that stuff like "I only think of one match at a time", "I don't look ahead" is bullshit. When you're a lower level player, you go 110% every point of every match because you need to do so to win. You don't tank sets to save energy because you're scared you can't make them up like the better players can (although I definitely don't think Fed did that here... Murray is more of a culprit of that quite often). After I heard him say that stuff, I've rarely taken a big favourite with the handicap since.
