Retirement question (100 points for best answer)

If a favorite of -500 or higher loses, how often was it from retirement?

You see it more often on the wta tour. A few are notorious for it - azarenka, ivanovic, and bartoli to name a few. In more general terms i would say not often on favs of -500 or more. Tbis could work in your adv or disadvantage depending on where you play.

I bet you dollars to donuts that the most retirements as -500 dog or more are by...you guessed it....Victoria Azarenka. She would quit on anything I wager. To answer your question there have been 82 retirements on the ATP tour this year, and 10 times the fav has been -500 or better(1.2 in decimal odds). 8.2%..Latest is Kei Nishikori at the US Open..

Let me know if you want the ladies numbers..

What period do you need the answer for? It's easily obtainable for each of the last 5 years.

Since u didn't specify years I am giving u the answer for 2011:

    ATP: 8/79 = 10.1%

    WTA: 3/75 = 4%

Both of you gave good information.

Now to put it together... How many times have these big favorites retired, compared to how many matches they have lost?

So if there are 10 favs, -500 or greater in ATP that retired, how many matches have -500 or greater favs lost?

I think I gave you the answer. In 2011, -500 or greater ATP favs have lost a total of 79 games. 8 of those were because of retirement.

Apparently, I am having trouble reading. I'm a bit exhausted though.

If you take the last 5 years, what are your results?

    Here it is:

    2010: 8/99
    2009: 5/100
    2008: 8/101
    2007: 10/109

So including the current year it will be 39/488 = 7.99%

I have a database with all matches played and the odds for the last 5 years and you can extract that info from there.
