A player retiring from the match before even stepping on court = walkover for their opponent. Fognini bailed 2 days ago so Djoko's automatically through to the next round.

automatic win/loss without having to play the match. usually from injury.

bad for djokovic. he is the type of player who needs to play to be in the best rhythm. will be a great game against federer, no doubt.

And in the wagering world it's generally called a loss for the player that retired, just for you to know. If a player retired within the game, it's generally a push, still, it's very wise to check these rules in with your book.

a walkovers pretty much graded as a push on any book.

even the books that dont grade retirements as pushes, it has to go at least one set the vast majority of the time.

What does it mean for the Serb’s winning run? As Action81 explain: “Walkovers don’t count towards the streak. Djokovic can at best reach 45 in a row by end of tournament. Record is 46.”

Walkover is a push, period. Some books have the rule that a match counts as soon as the first ball is served. What this means is that retirements in game are not void, but obviously walkovers are.

A walkover does not count as a win to add to the streak.
