Sahara Hotel Casino Shutting Down May 16

59 years old. 1,000 more people out of work in Vegas. North end of the strip is becoming a ghost town.

Unemployment rate in Vegas is around 14%....so this certainly won't help the numbers. Lots of businesses in the Sahara also will probably shutdown like the NASCAR cafe etc. I think was in there.

Sucks for the people that worked there.

Almost impossible for a building that old to be competitive in the environment of the "new" Vegas....especially on the Strip.

I hate to see this, but this is the cost of progress. Still, makes me a little sad.....

Opie I agree....the land is probably worth more for development. Same thing is going on in CA with horse racing at Hollywood Park. Racing is losing money, and the owners want the land to develop....it's sucks, but it's the cost of keeping up

The Sahara allowed itself to become a run down dump, as far as their rooms were concerned. Vegas is changing from a gambling town to a resort city where gambling is allowed. There is a huge difference there. Before gaming profits were the main source of income for the hotels. Now the hotels have to make a profit in every aspect of their operation, or they go under.

I really liked that place, had one of the last "old vegas" type of vibes and great deals to be had if you were on a budget. Someone will build a brand new shiny palace there as that end of the strip will soon look like the other. Circus Circus can't hold out much longer with all the space available around them.

That part of the Strip never really took off and left them on an island almost by themselves. Bad area where tourists never felt safe.

Riviera, Tropicana, Circus-Circus, Imperial Palace still there...But they're dumps also. Sahara had a Leroys sports book too. Shittiest book in town. Had to wait for approval on $100 play. Nascar cafe did pretty well during football season, good crowds and nice drinks prizes, but the place did need some work. Casino had that old Vegas feel to it. Feel bad for all those people, it's really getting grim here guys. Unemployment rate went down, but that was due to people that quit collecting unemployment or left.

also Riveria would close before Circus Circus in my humble opinion ..

never stayed in a room there.. but the website didn't make it look nice at all.. this is a place that the Rat Pack would frequent.. but then you go online and see the pool looks like it was a in Motel 6..

yeah it did.. but if you really want to enjoy the old vegas vibe.. just go to old vegas.. stay at the nugget or binions or someshit..

its like the misfit casinos out there.. The Sphere( been to vegas like 10 times and never even stepped into this place) THe Riveria, Circus, Sahara, I mean who wants to go to any of these places? I used to take friends to slots of fun to teach them Craps .. low limits and usually no one around.. but now.. i don't have that issue..

Plus That Irish spot and Casino Royal offer pretty much the same low limit tables that these dinosaurs do and they are in the Central Strip!!

Yeah.. it was to bad they didn't try to reinvent themselves.. the old school vibe is cool... but you have to keep it classy.. Tropicana is fully remodeling there hotel and it will still have a old school vibe.. but it will at least have everything new...

God Vegas has changed for the worse.
I remember when the Mirage was state of the art, now it's mediocre at best.

I miss the Slipper, Stardust, DI for golf..................
Used to get my golf comped at the DI.

That end of the strip is becoming useless. Circus Circus and Stratosphere are in jeopardy, along with Riveria. Anything north of Wynn, with the exception of the LV Hilton because of the Convention Center and Sportsbook is not a destination anymore. First the Desert Inn then Stardust and Westward Ho dies, then Frontier...... now Sahara.

Circus Circus is jam packed all the time. I would be shocked if it isn't the most profitable MGM property on certain metrics. They serve their niche and do it well.

Sahara is an abject depressing sh*thole. I'll be elated to see that place razed.
