Is a bookmaker allowed to do this?

Made a bet in the world cup, it lost but I received my stake back, no reason but I assumed it was because of a promotion (this book regularly has promos such as... if a player farts at any time during the game, we will refund your stake if a giant monster appears in the ground at any time during the final 10 mins... or other such nonsense promotions that are highly unlikely to happen).

Wagered the stake, it won and I withdrew.

Apparently it was a system error. Just deposited back and they have taken back the original losing stake. Without informing me. My balance was not negative, I had no email, they let me withdraw the whole lot at the time. WTF?

I'm not putting in a complaint until I get other people's views, I am still technically up/in profit even after they have taken the deposit back (let me keep the winnings), but it still stinks that they never informed me they would take back any deposit I made, I think they thought if they told me I wouldn't have deposited back. Anyway, what do you think?

Seems to me they acted correctly for the situation once they had spotted the error, although a bit of customer service (give you a bonus/freeplay to say sorry) might have been wise. Take back the money returned in error but allow subsequent bets (and winnings) to stand. What more could you expect?

I actually think this is a pretty deceitful way to go about correcting an error and agree 100% that they didn't advise you after they withdrew because they assumed you wouldn't have deposited again if they had. It's not your fault they let you withdraw that balance and didn't pick up on the error in a timely fashion ie between the time you requested the withdrawal and the time they processed it. At the very least I'd be requesting a free play. Shoddy customer service.

I agree that the end result was fair but that it is a deceitful way to handle it. Unfortunately, it is kind of obvious that most people wouldn't deposit if they told you they were going to correct the error. It seems you are owed some type of explanation - I think it is fair just shitty customer service.

how about the deceitful way the OP thinks it was from a promo

why not call them when the bet was refunded and ask why it was refunded instead of assuming?

players take a shot with money that isn't theirs and then complain

you are lucky they let you keep the winnings from the mistake.

i used to work for Paddy Power and this is a very comon occurrence. Every boomaker has it in their rules that they can correct any misake they make. They don't usually wait for players to deposit again, they tend to set a negative balance unless it's avery large amount theymight monitor the account. They will also cancel a pending withdrawal if it hasn't reached the back (midnight on the day of the withdrawal). Basicall you have no comeback according to the rules but the fact that it was a a bet on a novelty market you might get a free bet if you pester them, they're usually very lenient with Novelty markets because their liablily is pretty low, hence why they let you keep the winnings. The only way to dispute the decison of a bookamker in the UK & Ireland is to contact IBAS but they usually side with the bookies and in this case i think they definitley would. Good Luck.

They do intend to email people and usually will but I know from experience that the whole company is quite disorganised, they make plenty of mistakes and sometimes the emails won't get sent, they wouldn't be the highest priority.

Sportsbook.com family group had worldcup promtion on the score was 0 : 0. They will return your lost on correct score. But the refund went onto bonus form in your total balance.

Would the book have been right even if the bet had lost, out of curiosity?

If it lost I'd say they could still reclaim the stake, yes.

Did you ask (or check) if they were running a money back special on the game in question?
