Police: 18 arrested in gambling ring run out of Borgata casino
Police say six casino employees and four known mob associates from Philadelphia were arrested in a sweep this morning by agents from the FBI's Philadelphia office. The suspects, all with links to organized crime, are being held by the New Jersey State Police and will be arraigned later.
Another five people are reportedly being sought.
Eyewitness News is told the suspects used the poker room at the popular Borgata to run illegal gambling operations, mostly on college sports. Their operation took in $22 millon in football and basketball bets since March 2006.
The illegal activity was apparently unbeknownst to upper casino management. However, six casino employees were among those arrested.
The reputed members of organized crime include Michael Lancellotti and mob associate Anthony Nicodemo, officials said.
