Bookies ban punter - for winning just £1000

Punter Duncan Shaw has told how he was banned from a bookies after winning £1000.
The 45-year-old said he was ordered not to bet at Joe Jennings again after pocketing the cash from a tenner stake.
And he claims he was stunned when they told him too many of his losing bets had come close to costing them.
Duncan insists he has lost far more to the firm than he's made over the past two years.
He said: "A guy from the company called to say they were banning me from betting on horse racing because I am 'too good'.
"I asked them if they had the right guy because I only place small bets and he told me I was also being banned because some bets which ALMOST won would have cost them a lot to pay out.
"That is totally ridiculous - bets which almost win don't pay out, so they are making money every time I lose."
Duncan, of Greenock, Renfrewshire, laid the wager over the phone with the Essex bookmakers last Sunday.
He selected 8-1 shot Bullwhip in the 2.30pm at Doncaster and Dallas Bell, which he took at 12-1 in the 2.40pm at Hexham.
His £10 double netted him £1000 and the winnings were paid into his account.
But on Wednesday the company phoned to tell him he was no longer welcome.
Children's home worker Duncan said: "I have bet thousands of pounds with Jennings over the past couple of years.
"And I have lost thousands of pounds to them, so I can't believe that when I win a few quid they ban me.
"I put a wee bit of work into it. I look at the horses and the form before deciding which ones I'm going to bet on. I had lost a few hundred quid over the weekend before my double came up - it was my last bet of the weekend and I was delighted when it won."
Duncan says he only bets small amounts and has lost thousands to Jennings.
He said: "My kind of bet is £10, £20, or maybe £30 doubles or trebles. It's not as if I'm a big-time gambler. When I joined the company, they told me the most I could bet at once was £1million, so I can't understand why they have banned me.
"I am just a small-time punter who enjoys his racing and betting but now I have been banned as if I was a big-time gambler who is taking them for thousands.
"The most I have won from them is £2000 - once.
"I have punted thousands with them which they were quick to take and now when I start to win a wee bit they pull the plug.
"That is their business - it's called gambling and there has been a lot of money which has changed hands.
"If I am being honest, I would have to say I am probably down over all - which means they have made money from me.
"These companies make millions and I am really angry about it.
"You get the odd big win every two or three months but in between I was basically giving them cash every week.
"The win on Sunday probably didn't even win me back the money I had lost the previous month."
Jennings - one of the UK's top independent bookies - were set up in1961 and have 35 shops in the south of England, the Isle of Man and Jersey. No one from Jennings was available to comment on Duncan's ban yesterday.

That is crazy on several levels.

They are in the business of risk management, and they are telling him that since he almost caught them slipping, that he is no longer welcome?

Lot of brittish shitbooks outthere, William hill banned a guy for bet $100 bet on tennis. Down to 0 limit. Same sad story for Stan James, Paddy Power, Skybet, Boylesports, Blue Square and Victor Chandler and a couple of others.

In fact jenningsbet is a better company than William hill (IMO) jenningsbet take normally €100 bets from pros.

DIF, how do you find Ladbrokes compared to all the others you listed?

Crazy story about Jennings. Do the shops run on commission at all? Or is there another reason why a particular shop might make such a decision, which makes it look less ridiculous than the article suggests?

As the article suggests, he made the wager over the phone and has been banned by the company and not just a shop. I would say he can still bet in Jennings shops until they start targeting him as well.

this is of course a joke, they problably took the wrong guy, 1000 win is nothing to a bookie or for some punters.

Nothing unusual here, all European books do this.

Joe Jennings is a very minor U.K. bookie. Will not tolerate even small winners.
