    VPN Recommendation

Can't stay connected for longer than one hour using Private Internet Access since their last software update. I'm going to try a different service. If you have favorite let me know.

What hardware are you using and what do you want the VPN to do?

If it's a Windows PC and all you need is a US, Netherlands, or Japanese IP then ProtonVPN's free download application is excellent. All that is required is an email address, and if you sign up for a free ProtonMail account first, (recommended), then that will do.

I had a problem with a prior VPN service. It turned out the VPN was fine but I had a Chkdsk error on my PC that was causing the VPN to fail. It's worth a quick check.

Had a great experience with NordVPN, 30 day money back no questions asked if you don't like too.

HideMyAss is good. Never tried nord, but I'm sure that's fine too.

Avoid HMA as you would avoid TopBet or 1xBet.

TL; DR: Hide My Ass sucks!

I had a good experience with Hide My Ass (HMA) for several years. I especially liked their customer service which I only had to use a couple of times and could access via chat and work with a human.

Then I didn't need a VPN, so I canceled for a couple of years. Recently I needed to use a VPN again, and I had been so happy with HMA that I just renewed with them. I had some issues with the install, and could not access any CS. All they have is email, and I'd write them and literally not hear back for days. And when I did hear back it was clearly someone who was just looking at key words and sending me link to help articles. May have even been a bot. So their customer service sucks, and I wouldn't recommend HMA to anybody.

Good to know. Haven't used a VPN in years. Sounds like they've gone downhill.

Switched PIA protocol setting from openvpn to wireguard so far so good. Thanks for the replies.

Been with Cyberghost for a few years, their minimum service (a handful of countries, one designated computer that you use only) is about $30 a year. Very reliable.

Using any non-dedicated IP address could land in you in trouble, depending on your reasons for using. Any bookmaker worth their salt knows the ranges used by these companies as a number of the addresses already appear on blacklists.

What does everyone use a VPN for? I understand using it for things like netflix or mlb.tv when you're travelling, but I assume there's more to it that I'm missing......is it used for anything other than to mask where you're located?

Ultimately that's the question. VPNs mask location so they help get around geo-location blocks, prevent tracking, and make 'true' identification more difficult. Things to consider are IP security, speed, geo-location availability, customer service, and price. Generally Express has better security and Nord has better speed. For most people the speed difference won't be huge. Most, but certainly not all, services are fast enough to stream with. There would definitely be an issue if your ISP is only providing a basic 'up to 17Mbps' service. Using the ProtonVPN free service I still had some buffering issues from some locations on my 50Mbps fibre service and 1 or 2 of the free locations have had very slow speeds. However, most people wouldn't notice the difference between a 50Mbps service and a near 1000Mbps service.

Express is currently $80 for 15 months. Nord is $100 for 24 months. I haven't used either but they seem score highly with every 'expert' reviewer. Private Internet Access, Zenmate, and CyberGhost are all owned by the Kape Technologies and effectively use the same system and presumably the same hardware. Kape Technologies has recently bought ExpressVPN. A company statement says ExpressVPN will be kept separate, (which suggests the other 3 will be merged).

Zenmate offers a 7 day free trial, (definitely worth trying out), and their deal is currently $59 for 3 years. Their service on my 50Mbps download speed package has impressively little drop-off in regards to speed, (drops to 47Mbps). If you want a streaming service that's cheaper than Nord purely for 'unofficial' streaming then it's a good deal. However, the system does have some flaws. If you're using a VPN for a pay service, be it accessing a Sportsbook account or a cheaper version of NFL GamePass, I would steer clear of this group of VPNs, (PIA, Zenmate, CyberGhost), because of those flaws.

If you're going to use a VPN for gambling, (which i'm NOT recommending), get Express, Nord, or Proton's free service. If you want to try pot luck then try VyprVPN. It's $60 for 3 years and like Proton it's under Swiss law, (which is a big plus).

Many VPNs provide multiple servers, some in your own state...

To use crypto only sportsbooks/casinos. They dont care if you use VPN from USA, they just don't want to know about it. It's all paid in crypto anyways, and many don't KYC.

Has anyone used CyberGhost? I'm wanting to add a dedicated IP to a VPN account and CyberGhost appears to offer it at a reasonable price.

    Zenmate is trmendous.
My boss uses Zenamte, has no complaints.

I use ExpressVPN, it's the best on the market if you ask me.

Nord's is the household name, it's still the go-to VPN servie for the average home gamer/surfer.
Nord's reputation hasn't changed it three years, dependable, and rock solid.

As I said in Post #15 CyberGhost doesn't offer customers a trial period but Zenmate, (which is owned by the same parent company and uses CyberGhost for their VPN services), does offer a free 7 day trial. All you would need to do to get the free trial is to give Zenmate a fake/disposable email address, (eg Yopmail). They will send a confirmation link to that address. Click the link at the fake/disposable email address, download the app and voila, free 7-day trial. It's worth checking out. If you like the product you can buy it through Zenmate, PIA, or CyberGhost themselves. Buying it through Zenmate would be the cheapest option at just $59 for 3 years.

Personally I wouldn't use this VPN for gambling or any financial services as I had several 'issues' with it. On my trial the Kill-Switch reset the IP from the US IP I chose back to the IP nearest to my actual location - which is not in the US and would cause a red flag incident with some books. Their DNS Leak promise wasn't 100%. A simple check showed a CyberGhost IP server location in my home country in addition to the expected VPN DNS locations. The trial version didn't always boot up with the requested country IP. The trial didn't have different settings for different machine users, so if someone else has a different account on your Windows computer it will activate with your settings when they sign in. That's really bad news if they sign in and aren't expecting a VPN to be active. (It caused a Gmail location issue here for my computer's other user). Also the settings are a nightmare if you use a desktop with 125% or 150% settings. You will have to reset back to 100% if/when they hit you with a pop-up. Finally the service doesn't have Wire-Guard which is the latest & fastest protocols. It's a good product, especially for normal use and streaming, but I wouldn't recommend it for financial dealings. Give it a try and then maybe try ProtonVPN's free service, (apologies if this is shilling).

Obviously free trials don't give you a dedicated individual IP address.

Are you hoping that won't look like a VPN at the other end?

As I don't think it will do that for you with most services.

If you are playing through a vpn from a non restricted country and of course you can pass the kyc is it a reason not to pay you?

    Thank you
