Identity verification: Sportsbetting.com and other sites. Help plz

O.k. I am new here and to sports gambling in general. I have been playing online poker for about 8 years now and played through the good ole days of simply withdrawing and depositing STRAIGHT into your bank account. A lot has obviously changed since then and I just started betting on football this year.

I set up an account with Sportsbetting.com because my friend had mentioned it to me. I won a couple hundred bucks and wanted to withdraw it and it was denied. I have been reading this website because they wanted what I believe is A LOT of person information. I have no problem with faxing them a utility bill or bank statement, but the Driver's license had me VERY concerned. I deposited $$$ with my debit card and I even understand the need for a fax copy of that for identity purposes.

A couple hundred bucks isn't that big of a deal but A: I earned it, B: I want to continue to bet, and C: its the principal of the matter

    My questions are:

    1) Is a bank statement, utility bill, CC copy, AND driver's license neccessary for most, if not ALL, online sports betting websites these days? It just seems SO shady b/c I have never had to do that before for any other poker sites.

    2) I already KNOW this book has a terrible rep, but like I said, my friend told me about it and I started playing BEFORE I even knew this site existed or else I would obviously have went with an A+/A online book. Am I just F'ed out of my $$$ or will I actually get paid IF I decide to send them my documents?

    3) Who here has actually sent their documents to them and how? Is this standard procedure for this and other sites? Is sportsbetting.com legit?

ANY information would be very reassuring and helpful for my piece of mind and security. Thank you for any and all responses.

P.S. this is duplicate thread because I didn't know exactly where I should post/address this.

Like you, I'm new to online betting and new to this board. I placed a straight $250 bet on the Saints plus 4.5 pts over the Colts in the Superbowl using Sportsbetting.com. I didn't know anything about them at the time. I used them because I saw them listed in the odds section of a popular sports website.

I attempted to withdraw my winnings immediately following the game, actually late that Sunday night. I called their 800 number to ask them how much I could withdraw. It was confusing because they had added in a lot of so-called bonus money that wasn't really mine unless I continued to play with them a lot more.

I was told that I could withdraw $484.77 and I immediately did that using their website and requesting a wire transfer into my checking account. I immediately received an email confirmation of my withdrawal request.

Three or four days later I received an email notice that my withdrawal had been cancelled. No explanation why, just a notice that it had been cancelled.

I called their 800 number again. It was explained to me that the withdrawal request had been cancelled by their accounting department because they did not have the necessary identification documents from me to proceed with my withdrawal request. They explained to me exactly what documents I would have to send them (either by email or fax).

I faxed them a copy of my most recent electric company bill, a copy of the most recent bank statement for the credit card that I used to make my original deposit, a copy of both the front and the back of my driver's license and a copy of both the front and the back of the bank credit card.

A couple of days later, I received an email from them telling me that my signature on the back of the bank credit card did not match the name on the front of the card, and that was a problem in their eyes. My signature was my first initial, middle initial and last name. The name printed on the front of the card was my first name, middle initial and last name. So I managed to use a heavy pen and go over the first initial in the signature with my full first name.

I then faxed them a copy of the front and the back of the "fixed" credit card with the new-and-improved signature. I even enlarged the copies to fill the full page. I waited two days to make sure their accounting department had time to review my new credit card copies and then I did a new withdrawal request on their website for the full $484.77 to be wired into my bank checking account. A couple of days later I received a new email withdrawal confirmation.

Five days after that, some money showed up in my checking account as a wire transfer. Instead of $484.77, it was $460.30 minus a $10 wire transfer fee charged by my bank equals a net of $450.30, subtracting my original $250.00 deposit equals a net of $200.30 on my straight $250.00 bet. After three weeks, I was just happy to be done with those guys.

Don't forget to put your sportsbetting.com account number on all copies you send them. Make sure that the signature on the back of your credit card matches your name as shown on the front of the credit card. Make sure all documents are clearly legible. You might want to increase the size of your driver's license and bank credit card.

It took me three weeks from the time I first started the withdrawal process but I finally received most of the money they owed me. I have no intention of ever doing business with those guys again.

    Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your response. Like I said, I have no prob. with the utility bill, CC copy, and bank statement, but the driver's license. Damn! That is just begging me for identity theft. Did you black any of the information out on your license or other documents or just straight up copy and fax it?

Is really standard protocol now a days for online betting sites?

send in info they want - get paid fast - scanning is clearer. go to kinko's or office depot if you do not know how to do it yourself. if you fax it may have to be sent more than once. they are a bit of a pain when it comes to getting verified. you will not regret it. this place is great once verified. seems like at least once a wek same question about sportsbetting.com. and i keep giving the same answer. and i've been withdrawing all this time. close to and over 5 figures a month.

I did not black out any of the information I sent them. At least my state does not use your social security number as your driver's license number like a few states do.

I thought their requests were outrageous but after I posted a post to that effect on this board, a helpful regular member assured me that this was standard policy and that I either complied with their requests and got paid or I didn't comply and didn't get paid. It's not like we're in the driver's seat here considering the legal status of online gambling in this country.

Like you, I'm not comfortable with them having that much personal information on me and not comfortable with all the authorization forms I had to sign in addition to sending them copies of those documents. In anticipation of potential problems, I used a bank credit card that I seldom use and that I planned to cancel soon anyway. I have already cancelled that card.

    Good luck!

I don't believe we have every had an identity theft complaint from any sportsbook. Doesn't mean it hasn't or won't happen in the future, but when a sportsbook already has your money, even the worst ones, are rarely looking to scam your identity.

I appreciate your caution, but in the case of sportsbetting.com you will have to provide a variety of documents to get paid, but you will then get paid. If anyone feels like they are getting stalled after providing clean copies of documents, PM or email me and I should be able to help.

    Josh,

IMO its a matter of time before someone steals a ton of identities from a sportsbook. Though I'd say the chance of having your identity stolen at a sportsbook is probably lower than when you use your CC our at dinner and far less damaging.

    re: for future reference

first, try not to deposit with a cc. you don't have a choice now, your going to jump thru their set of hoops to get your money. if it's only a few hundred, just eat it and go to another book.

the most dox you should ever show are a DL with the dl# and the dob crossed out. even better, a passport. make a clear digitized scan/file and send the attachment with an email.

    ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE.

most importantly, ALL WITHDRAWLS AND TYPES OF WD'S AGREED TO BEFORE FIRST DEPOSIT. then the VERY LAST thing you do is send the dl/passport file.

bottomline, before you make that deposit think of ANY possible way they can deny you a legit withdrawl and address the possibility before deposit.

i have been talking to a lot of books and they are willing to deal with you and do a custom setup. make it very clear that you are just worried about your privacy and security.

    your concerns are justified.

To answer your question, it is not necessary, I have dealt with sportsbooks who did not ask for a single thing, so no its not necessary, good day

I can not understand , why people are playing at Sportbook.com or Sportsbetting.com and then fighting them over all kinds of issues??? They are terrible C- and D- rated books that everybody should stay away from. I admit there are books who's SBR rating is way off like BetEd for example that has no business to be B rated book , but overall ratings still have connection to what really happens out there. Read a forum postings about the book you are looking to play at... Common sense! You don't need to look for a trouble , thing is it has a tendency and habit to find you sooner or later

    .
I'd be more than a bit concerned about that.
Did you attempt to make any withdrawals from them?
Almost all jurisdictions make it mandatory for books to identify customers.
They don't do it for their own amusement. It costs them money to do.
If a book isn't doing it, they are either operating in a dodgy environment or aren't complying with the law. In either event I'd stay clear of them.

    Sportsbetting.com scam do not join

I recently deposited $100 and turned into 800. I sent in all the documents was told everything is fine. Go to withdrawl and they tell me they need more documents. There customer service is the biggest joke out there they do not have managers on weekends they are always short staffed. When I did speak to the manager it was some spic piece of trash who could not speak a lick of english. They all tell you the same thing. I do not want to hear apologies I want answers. I have been waiting two months now for my wire. My friend recently got a check for $400 and it bounced. He then tryed the wire and they charged him $47.00 fee on the wire and then they said the money was lost so he is stuck with the fee and still no money this site needs to be shut down. I wish more players would look on a site like this before they deposit. Some sport site needs to step up for there players where you can get cash when you want it how about sending us money through ** something atleast promising before I make another online gaming deposit.
