*Resolved* Fraudulent bets placed at Betonline account

    Edit by SBR: Complaint resolved.

    Hello all!

Im hoping somebody can offer some advice.

I have an account with Betonline but hadn’t used it in several years. Yesterday I made a $500 deposit with ETH, won the bet and promptly requested a payout.

I keep checking my account to see the status and logged in a few minutes ago and see that my $1000 has been placed on another football match in the form of 2 x $500 bets on over 4.5 goals.

I find this highly suspicious as I haven’t used the account in years and the password is not something that I use for anything else.

I cannot get hold of support, so need advice ASAP please. The bets that were placed are still in running.

    Thanks

Cover your bets at some other bookie, bet against your bets in BOL.

Too late. It was over 4.5 goals on the Arsenal game. Would have cost me a fortune to cover that.

I just don’t understand. The only party that has anything to gain by doing this is Betonline themselves. Why would a hacker bet on something ridiculous hoping it comes in. They would need to verify the withdrawal through my email or sms anyway.

If the bets were not placed by you and u have contacted BOL CS before the bets have been settled, then they should at least investigate for the potential hack. Maybe SBR can help to get u some senior manager to deal with it.

Ok thanks. I’ll fill out the form. To be fair I was in the live chat session 20 minutes before the game ended and it only needed 2 more goals for the bets to come in.

The form doesn't work. Cannot tick checkboxes or submit it. Looks like a load of jquery errors. Is there an alternate form or email address?

Asking members for PW in chat and sending it via email is also not the safest practice. Instead they should think about implementing 2FA Aut.

They monitor new devices logging into your account. Once had a pending payout. Logged in from a new mobile device to check the status. A few hours later my payout gets cancelled and they send an email asking about my new device. I'm like WTF?? You canceled my payout for that?

I dont think they ask for password anymore on live chat. They have security questions. I have little doubt that the employees can still see in plain text the passwords to your account though.....

Pretty sure it's broken as I've tried on different PCs/browsers/networks. But yeah I'll email and then also send through the form if it becomes available again. Thanks

They appear to be very proactive stopping payouts but not somebody placing bets with a different IP, most likely from another country

Apparently support forwarded my case onto their security team and somebody is going to give me a call back. It doesn't look good for me as I've not used them in several years and the fraudulent bets matched my legit beds (same amount, same sport, team from same league). I wonder whether somebody was hoping I didn't notice then was planning to offload the profit in poker.

Or to withdraw it in bitcoin without you noticing. I dunno. The question is why does it feel like 9/10 times something like this happens is it with the betonline group of books. Is it a lax website or a rogue employee or does it just feel like its more prevalent with that group of books? it scares me.

A couple of years ago my account was hacked two times at BetOnline.

Both times bitcoin withdrawals were requested from, who knows where, but were not me.

Both times their security caught it and denied the rogue payouts.

I'm glad their team was on it but wonder what they ever did to fix it from happening in the future.

They told me it was some sort of internet hijacking tool.

I received a call from their security department. They state that they can see that the account was compromised prior to my deposit.

However they also state that they can only find records of my IP address for my 1 device (iPhone) during the time the bets were placed.

Therefore they are unable to refund my money.

At the moment I cannot see it being anything else other than an inside job.

i think its good if books add a feature like this to their software, call it Login Activity History, so users can see:

I don't understand this at all.

You placed a $500 bet and the bet won, what was the balance after the bet?

You then made a withdraw request, was it for the full balance?

Log into the account and see what time the bets were placed, and then ask them to send you the ip addresses and what times they were active.

I know they said that they only saw your ip address on the account, but if it shows that your ip wasn't active when the bets were placed, then case solved, no?

Placed $500 bet and won $1000. Withdrew the $1000.

Whilst the payout was pending somebody placed a bet on my account for the full balance. Subsequently the payout was later cancelled as the funds were no longer available.

BetOnline told me that my account WAS compromised at an earlier date, however only my device had logged in on the day that the fraudulent bet was placed, suggesting that it was in fact myself that placed the bet.

BetOnline told me they cannot see the IP addresses of the person that placed the bet. They can only see login sessions. This is part of the problem I think.

I’ve asked them to complete a second review as it’s a load of rubbish.

    Hassle and player compliance.
You can make 2FA optional. And regarding hassle, I think they have more hassle now addressing all the hacks.

Like I have said in a prev thread, 2FA is all they need to prevent this but Betonline doesn't want to implement it. They have the money. They have a security team that are receiving monthly pay but refuse to pay a one time price to implement 2FA on their website.

After seeing multiple of such security incidents with BOL and non-action from them to implement 2FA, I believe they simply want to leave the security lax for shady reasons.

BetOnline completed their second review and claim that their “wagering, security and fraud teams did not find any descrepencies”. I’m therefore giving up on this and calling it a lesson learned. I advise anybody thinking of betting with these jokers not to do so.

That really sucks man, but seems to be what most people end up doing.

What is the lesson learnt here? Because if you used another bookmaker and you looked through this site, you will see every excuse under the sun to steal customer funds whenever and however they can.
I get that this case is a bit different as they haven't just outright stolen your money, but you have still come out of this unfairly losing your funds.
