Are offshore books and daily fantasy sites downsizing with US Sports betting coming?

YouWager ends the Loyalty program. Bookmaker and DSI divest, and begins to show signs of distress. MLB and NBA looking to dump their investment in FanDuel and DraftKings. Will the probable upcoming legalization of sports betting in the US make offshore sites downsize their operations substantially? Will FanDuel and DraftKings equity fall into dangerous levels?

I think we are seeing the signs of this already. For those who have a lot of money in these sites - are you concerned or taking precautions?

I'm hoping it does not pass. I much prefer offshore and have no problems using bitcoin to transact. Legalized/regulated sports betting is terrible and the lines/juice would be too high. Offshore lines are far easier to beat with reduced juice/low vig and all the amazing promotions and bonuses sites give out. I'd still wager/play offshore given the choice if it does get through.

I don't think things will change for offshore. Maybe offshore becomes even more popular after people get more interested in gambling once legalized. Like crusherrr says you can't beat offshore for odds, Lower vig and bonuses.

It really does not matter if it passes or not, offshore books that offer reduced juice should not get hurt too much.

There will be a higher number of sharp bettors dealing with offshore as many recs/whales and casual guys who don't care what the vig is and would rather their $100 instantly will deal with regulated and licensed sites in the states.

I hope your right and it could bring improvements. Sites that take 2-3 days to pay bitcoin will need to speed up to compete and promotions could improve to attract recreational bettors to stay offshore.

    Time will tell.

My opinion is if sports betting gets passed it will take out the lower tier books as it will be more difficult for them to attract the casual bettors who prefer the instant gratification of being paid at a casino and not have to deal with Bitcoin.

The big books will still survive with an already loyal customer base, but will have to evolve and offer more perks to stay competitive like lower juice or decent rewards/bonuses. They lower juice will also keep the sharp money offshore.

Main key for the offshore is to resist temptation and not advertise on mainstream media if sports betting becomes legalized. I think that's what brought the heat to the online poker sites years ago and DFS. The constant advertising on TV was just too much for the feds to not notice. Stay under the radar and market yourself that doesn't involve mainstream ads like TV or radio. Offer low juice and good promotions and the word of mouth will get you customers.

The moves cited in the OP are unrelated. Offshore books aren't feeling any economic pressure from a legalization that hasn't even happened yet. Why would they prematurely overreact?

Not all of the offshore books customers are even from the U.S. I really don't think it will matter even if it does get legalized which could still be 10 years from now.

Why would it matter? People in Countries where it's been legal for years can still bet at Offshores if they choose to.

Not concerned at all. As mentioned above, you're going to see higher juice, plus MLB & NBA are talking about an idiotic integrity fee which gets passed along to you know who in the juice. You look at what offshore is offering now and if anything they gain from this. Anybody playing there now would go backwards.....for something government run!!

I doubt it. Better deals will still exist offshore - they may even get better to keep their customer base happy. if sports betting becomes legal you very well might have to pay -115 or higher once everyone gets their cut. If a company like Will Hill gets to run many of these outlets with their low risk tolerance anyone with a clue will still be offshore. Do you think any company running legal sports bettng will offer things like open parlays, teasers, reduced juice, point buying? I doubt it.

I think the locals will still thive, the only ones who can get hurt are the guys that run the football parlay cards. The $5 or $10 bettors might play those at legal outlets.

First off of daily fantasy comes to an end it’s because of the dirty buisness. I used to play daily fantasy. Fan duel and draft kings are not legitimate businesses, and they also tried to merge and government would not allow it. They both got in trouble for several things. Biggest one few years ago was rigging the games or something some how with inside information they traded with each other. I forget all the details but it’s not as legit as people think. I don’t think daily fantasy should come to an end, but I do think it needs to be regulated.

As far as legal betting in the us as far as I know outside of Vegas Atlantic City is getting full betting, other then that a few other states have it but weird stuff. I don’t know about countrywide, but have not checked it either lately.

People who live in vegas bet more offshore than in Vegas. The offshore product is better run. If Vegas can't compete with the offshores, why could anywhere else in the US?

I lived in Reno for 4 or 5 years, but had to move back to California due to the wages being too low to survive in Reno. Ever since moving back here, I've looked at all the online books because I DO miss betting sports. However, there are too many issues I have with the online books that currently, I can't make that move. 1) I don't want some mysterious company in Antigua or Barbados to have a photocopy of my Driver's License and Social Security Card just to make a deposit, 2) If I win, I want a guarantee that I'll be paid out instead of the shenanigans I read about on here about the limits to how much you can withdraw as well as how long it takes to get the money, and 3) I can cash out a ticket at William Hill or MGM properties and pay $0 in fees whereas the online books have astronomical fees.

I'm not a high dollar player so my depositing my $200-$300 to make some $10 or $15 parlays or straight bets makes online books not worth the effort and time after they take their fees out of my withdrawals. Patswin has apparently never stepped foot in a William Hill or ANY Nevada sportsbook. They ALL offer Teasers and Point Buying and have for well over a decade. And that's for Basketball and Football. William Hill offers Teasers and Super Teasers as well as many other options, you just have to know what you want to bet and how and they'll let you do almost anything you want. Harrahs is the one that's crap with high bet minimums for certain bets as well as terrible lines.

So, if offshore is so wonderful, please tell what the best online option is for a lower limit player who can't really afford to drop $100 a day? Which ones are known to 100% pay you out without dicking around with YOUR money? The Supreme Court is expected to legalize sportsbetting across the US and allow it to be a state-by-state issue and here in California, I'm certain we're getting it legalized (they already set some rules in place) and it'll 99% be a William Hill state. If there are other options without the hassles, I'd really like to know what they are.
