Why don't offshore books use two-factor authentication? Security is awful.

I mean many of these shops ask you for user and password before even answering a question on the phone.

Giving out my password to some nobody in Costa Rica is not something I enjoy.

I see the bitcoin books all offer 2FA via either google or Authy.

It's a good idea. At least then it would be much more difficult for an insider to use the information that is so readily available to him.

    Why doesn't Bookmaker/DSI or 5Dimes offer 2FA?

Firstly there is absolutely no reason for offshore books to ask you for your password, so there is no real justification for them doing that in the first place and I'm not sure why they do it as it is only going to decrease the confidence a customer has in the security of their funds at that sportsbook in that the customer knows that a minimum wage, penniless worker in Costa Rica has access to their whole balance.

I wouldn't be surprised if the offshore books wagering software isn't so antiquated that it might not be compatible with modern advances like two-factor authentication. It could even be that the software is that bad that the only way for staff to get access to your account when you contact them is for them to enter your password into their system. I can see no real other reasons for them insisting on asking for the password as if it was for dodgy reasons then we would have heard of numerous stealing of players' funds from Costa Rican employees which we haven't, so I can't really think of any other reason as to why they would have to ask you for your password.

Whenever Dave Mason from BetOnline puts up screenshots of big winning bets on Twitter, the back-end wagering software that they use looks like it's Windows 98 quality.

I have a Coinbase account that has two-factor authentication. Can't use it. They can't deliver a text. They have secured me out of an account.

You can setup two-factor through Google Authenticator as well as a backup.

OP, good question. Most of the gaming software platforms currently in use were built years ago and in most cases by a third-party company. Reworking the log-in system to use 2FA is probably more difficult than it sounds especially without the source code of the core software. That said just as betting sites are now rolling out fully responsive sites and catching up to today's tech, 2FA for all account activity should hopefully be on the horizon, and in fact a handful of top sportsbooks already offer 2FA through SMS to approve bitcoin payouts.

I am two-factored out. Will not be using it again. I will not be keeping money in the account. I am more at risk from Coinbase than a thief. They will have to be pretty damn fast to steal my money.
