    BetHQ.com.au

Anyone playing at this Norfolk Island registered bookie?

I'm hearing that there are payout complaints.

Suggesting you not open an account or deposit there at this stage.

I can understand why they would be attractive to the thousands of Aussie punters who have been severely limited by the Pommie owned corporates and the miserable TAB to find an "Australian" registered bookie offering to take them on at competitive odds.

I looked at opening an account with them until I saw that they don't hold player funds in trust as the mainland Aussie books are required to do. So that effectively means players are advancing them an interest free unsecured loan to fund their working capital. Not from me thanks!

Seems they must be putting the racing action through Citibet?

yes thats the talk on most forums, but i made an account today to have a look and wasnt able to access the exchange page, very minimal deposit/withdrawal options too. I personally would be steering clear until i hear some positive reviews

If you want to get access to Citibet exchange, I suggest you use a trustworthy agent rather than getting involved with this mob.

Its 75th hand so I am not going to swear on a stack of bibles.

But I heard the federal coppers raided an Asian kid that went to bond uni and found a house full of money. The kids explanation was that he was a citibet agent, this created a bit of a knock on effect getting a few others pinched.

    Interesting.
Be interested to know what charges they could bring against one acting as an agent to Citibet.
Of course the kid could have been up to other things which attracted the cops' interest in the first place.
Like why would his commissions be held at home in cash?

Thats a fair question. I took five minutes to do a google search and came up with this:

    1. The Racing Administration Act defines a Bookmaker as:
    bookmaker includes any person who:
    (a) carries on the business of, or who acts as, a bookmaker, bookmaker's clerk or commission agent, or by betting or making wagers.
    (b) gains, or endeavours to gain, a livelihood wholly or partly by betting or making wagers.
    *******THAT'S PRETTY BLOODY BROAD*********

    2. Gaming Regulation Act around 4.2.??? states that an Agent and the Bookmaker are to be effectively treated as the same entity (thats my interpretation I might be wrong its a bloody long winded doc)

    3. I found this application, I'm sure most agents don't have this!:

    http://www.gamblingandracing.act.gov...nce-May-09.pdf

So I'm tipping if the coppers wanted to pinch them there would be a truck load of stuff that they could pinch them for!

That's before the racing Mafia (RVL, Racing NSW etc.) got a hold of them for race field fees.

I had a long-term futures bet win with this book.

They have not settled the bet despite my e-mail correspondence.

Still listed as an Approved Betting Operator of the AFL, ARU, CA, NRL, PGA & TA.

I guess it's time to lodge a complaint via SBR.

I'd be surprised if SBR can help you with this one.

The Norfolk Island regulator might be of some use but given the fact that their T&Cs clearly state that there is no safeguard for your funds like with mainland Aussie operators I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Because I took 10k from these clowns.

90%+ chance of getting paid 10k is better than nothing.

Plus, if they stiffed I would have ************* so I was absorbing little risk.

Basically comes down to Risk vs Reward. It's why bonus shops are so attractive to some.
