I've said it before and I'll say it again. The reality for the local bookie is that he would have no market to get good juice on both sides, 90% losers, and a great living if he didn't make sure he paid every gdamn time someone won. These bookies act like there is honor when in reality, it's only a business decision for them. The only thing they have on the player that overextends is his degenerate ass can't stop the thrill of gambling and losing, so if the player went too far tilt, of course he's gonna stiff. It's got nothing to do with good guys or bad guys.

Bookies are all talk, full of crap, and you know the bookies that don't have problems with players?

The guys who give free plays, who treat the customer like he is the 90% loser he is, who don't let some idiot go degen to a number way over his possible payment.

It's never worth a bookies time to come after anyone. Too many other losers are coming up soon, and they pay more than enough for the handful of winners and the stiffs combined.

But I love how wise guys on here act like they ever do, it's somewhat amusing.
You make a lot of good valid points here. IMO As a local bookie you need to qualify people. Look for a college degree, a good paying job and someone who isn't going to bet like a complete idiot. Example "Japanese baseball" at night when you know they're drunk. These are signs of not getting paid. If someone asks for a bigger credit limit when they or down (this is a big sign of a stiff). If they don't pay on time a bookie should work out a deal and try to come to an agreement fast. If that can't happen you write it off and move on. Just like stackingreen said. As a bookie you need to start blaming it on yourself! Where you missed the sign that this guy was a stiff? You are the one fronting and taking his action. This business always has people who stiff them. That is part of the business especially if you're trying to get to big to fast and not qualify right. To me it's a relationship business. Most people want to pay and do the right thing so negotiating when someone lost his ass and is down and sees no hope, you must work something out or receive nothing. You try to run it as clean as you can. When you get to big and you don't know or meet the people that you are dealing with how would you not get stiffed? The days of breaking peoples legs and threatening your clients are long gone. You should be able to see the stiff coming a mile away. If the bookie doesn't lower a credit limit when someone is on tilt or catch it in time they can assure themselves they will be chasing and writing it off. I have known of many people willing to take a nice ass beating for 10-15k but do you get your money? NOPE. Matter of fact some of them would much rather the ass beating. After the beats they take taking another beating isn't a problem. As you know WOMEN are the biggest problem when chasing big money and most local bookies that I know don't deal with asians as well(asians can crush you which some of you might know). They can literally clean you out. I've never seen a group hit so many huge parlays in my life. Over and over and over again. No offense if you're asian, actually it's a compliment! I guess it depends where you are from but around here its not a secret.

In a perfect world, guy will lose all xtra cash after living expenses and stop gambling until he has more money---Real world-guy has already lost all he can beg, borrow, steal. Then he takes one more shot. Bookie has won a ton off this guy. Books and casinos could not survive without degenerate, sickOs.

    Exactly.

And as pboozer says above, it's all about relationships, as everything is in life. Deep down if they are getting something from the stiff, the other stuff is just distraction/garbage/pride. It's not like the stiff won on them, so the "lent" and "lost" money is just language games.
