    Question on betfair commission

Anyone from Spain, Italy and France using betfair?
    What is your exchange commission?

Do you pay any other commissions (on deposits/withdrawals or on the sportsbook or any others?)

    I live in Portugal.

Portuguese government aproved today the new online gaming law. I still dont know the details but news are that the French, the Spanish and the Italian laws were used as models.

I think that Betfair does no longer operate in France but they are working in Spain and Italy.

In Betfair site i just find this http://corporate.betfair.com/media/p...8-04-2014.aspx wich is just scaring.

Is someone here from these countries?
What can you tell us from your experience?

Why? It is saying that the company "Betfair Italy" will pay Italian corporate tax at a rate of 20% on its commissions charged

It also says (at least thats how i understand it) that it works as an "italian only" market - ring fenced national liquidity.
That is what really scares me. Liquidity will be near zero.

You can only bet at betfair's sportsbook from Italy, not at the exchange.

    Hi xtrader,

    Are you from Italy?

Your information conflicts with the one from betfair http://corporate.betfair.com/media/p...8-04-2014.aspx

I see. They launched a separate exchange just for Italians. If only I could play there ...

has betfair logo but says page not found . maybe global location thing only works from inside Italy.
I used betfair back in its early days inside the US , this used to be amazing. Bring laptop to simulcast location and lay horses all day long, exchange of course.
Then one day tried to sign in and it said , "not available in your geographical location" well it was time to find how to have proxy then. but when it worked prior it was heaven for printing cash.
    Now just a daily grind.
If exchange is available in Italy great, if not it probably will soon.
I beleive it is or ahs been the first fully licensed outfit through germany a few years back so probably something similar for Italy.

And here we have an image of live exchange in betfair italy taken few minutes ago.

    betfair italy.jpg

And following is an image of the live exchange in "normal" betfair taken at the same moment.

    betfair.jpg

The italian exchange is dead. I just hope they are not doing the same thing in Portugal.

I can't imagine even the UK would provide enough liquidity to please punters if ring fenced on its own.

I wonder what was behind that plan. Had to be a door opener for something else at a guess.

Why charge 20% commission that would offset the better prices offered

I believe that all this shit is regulatory demand.

    You can check this also.
    https://api.developer.betfair.com/se...alian+Exchange

We cannot accept betting offers with potential winnings, calculated on the basis of the pre-selected odds that exceed the amount envisaged by article 12, paragraph 4, of Finance Minister Decree no. 111 of 1 March 2006 (10,000 Euros). N.B. This amount includes the original stake.
So you cannot have much liquidity at either extreme of the price ladder either, as one cannot lay more than 5k at the bottom (5k profit plus 5k stake (?)) or necessarily buy to cover at extremes as if you put in buy 20 at 400 and market screams to 800 on a spike, your buy of 20 will be refused/kicked out, and if the spike subsides you're unfilled and unable.

    Wow ...
