all except an isolated one or two ''work'' yet sportswagering here not legal or illegal at the present time.

would be nice if the senate ratified bill c-290, single game sports wagering.

Hi guys, I'm back here xD.

Sorry for bringin back this old post, but I think is better than create a new one talking about the same thing.

How is the current situation in Canada??

I'm now here and I have some doubts about betting:

    - Taxes, legal things and other stuff that I must know before do it unconsciously. I mean, things like, if I have a job and I start betting, do I have to declare something for the taxes? Will I have problems if I have a job and I bet at the same time? Does it depend on the earnings?

    - Does Pinnacle work in Canada?

    - jjgold said that some bookies are closing here, is there any important update about it?

    Thanks guys.

    Of course it is legal.

There is no law against it.

Pinnacle is your best option. It works fine and all banks will deposit/withdraw fine except one (DM me if you want to know which ones may block you). I don't think there is any truth to Canadians being shut out in the future (at least from Pinnacle).
I talked to a tax lawyer a couple of years ago and he said there's no obligation to report winnings to the CRA as it falls into the same category as our lottery would.

Edit: Bet365 is the next best option because of its deposit/withdraw options (second only to Pinny). I haven't ever had an issue with either so long as I provided the proper ID.

I'm trying to create new accounts and make some deposits but im finding the same problem everywhere I tried.

Is Paypal, skrill or neteller completly forbidden in Canada? I tried in a couple of bookies and theres no way to deposit money with those methods, only Debit/*********** and other bank methods.

Yeah Skrill pulled out of Canada last year. The other two have not offered gaming in Canada in quite sometime. Basically down to cards, bitcoin, or p2p.

Paypal not forbidden, Skrill would let you send to gaming sites, Pinny has more banking options if you play in CAD instead of USD

    Hi Hickey,

I saw your message in a thread about paying taxes in CAnada.

Was your information accurate? For the first time, I won about 10k and I was wondering if I should declare it? I won that money within 1 month.

It says everywhere that we don't have to declare online gambling unless we are professional gamblers, which is not my case.

    Should I declare or no?

    Thanks!

You only need to declare it if its your primary source of income which is what would classify you as a professional gambler.

Are you guys 100% sure about that?

If I cash in many checks that lead to 10 000$ I don't have to declare it?

If I understand correctly, online gambling and lotery are the same? On the website of Canada Revenue, it says that we do not have to declare lotery earnings. Lottery and online gambling (offshore) are the same?

How will the governement know that the 10 000 is from online gambling though?

    Thanks a bunch guys,

Navigation tool excellent on right side

Canada phased out a lot of deposit/withdrawals methods that were available in the past

You're right, they took out a few options but the best one (Insta-D) is still available.

@Chucho, there's precedent in Canadian law where someone's gambling "profession" and the payment of taxes were brought into question. These people were not required to pay as it was still viewed as a game of luck. Furthermore, if the CRA were to 'approve', if you will, someone's profession as gambling it would open them up to have to accept years when people lose money instead of turn a profit. That's something the CRA definitely does not want to have to deal with so it's overlooked.

It is still possible to have a number of outs, by living in /canada. way more relaxed than the states and many many books to choose from just do the search like they mentioned above.
Canadians have much larger options to chose from and very liberal about gambling online laws...
States the one that has it all wrong and screwed up..
