It might be nice for the "industry watchdog" to post about Pinnacle exiting UK

the UK government is introducing a new regulatory tax regime in the UK gambling sector. All gambling operators worldwide are being forced to obtain a new UK gambling licence along with a 15% tax rate if they want to continue taking bets from UK customers.

There will be more books leaving the UK. The guys who are UK focused are going to wait and see how much of the pie they gain from who else drops out. Bet365 who already pays the tax is loving life these days and now the books based elsewhere have to decide what to do. Don't expect us to break news on the in or out of the UK thing with official work from the book. These companies have shareholders and procedures they are required to follow. They want players to hear it from them in official responses. Now, if it was the rumor that a book was going to enter a market or a book was having a problem in a market leading to player issues, we'd be looking for the scoop.

Maybe pinnacle gets back into the US market now??

I would think places like bookmaker and Five Dimes can care less about UK tax meaning they take US players that are not gonna let a UK government believe them

The question is who pays the UK tax now?

Only the ones with their corporate entity in the UK.

Which is not a lot more than Bet365 AFAIK.

I'm interested to know how they plan to enforce it. That will be the deciding factor on how Costa Rican books act I'd say.

Chi_archie gets it. Even though he's bisexual and a huge Obama supporter, Archie remains one of the sharpest SBR posters.

I don't get it why would pinnacle call lose a massive betting country like the United Kingdom??

    Something is fishy

The only other thing maybe pinnacle is still waiting on a UK License?

One thing I noticed that might deter offshore books with less than transparent ownership structures is the number of people that need personal licences.

    http://licensingadvertisingact.blogs...s-require.html

They are supposed to log and report every IP they control, provide weekly reports of quarantined customer funds and their liability on them.

Books are asking if they join can they still defer to their current regulator for dispute resolution (still unknown) and other important matters like that.

I think if it was just a case of shelling out 15% on bet profits it would be business as usual for most of them.

Think it's safe to say soccer is by far the biggest sport in the UK. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pinnacle's soccer options (available markets) are about as limited as they can get. 5Dimes has a better soccer menu, and that ain't saying much. So I don't believe they're losing a massive amount of business.

There used to be a 6.75% tax on bookies turnover in the UK (which was collected as a 9% levy on bets). This was replaced from January 2002 with a 15% tax on profits.

UK Bookies indicated at the time that they were quite content (rather maybe than happy) to pay this on both their shop and remote operations - but many in the end retained their remote operations outside of the UK instead. Some did come back such as Coral, only to redepart some years later.

The UKGC now requires player funds separation 'after a couple of high profile cases'. This requires a lot of regular disclosure that might not be to some operators' taste.

It would be pretty easy to say hey you eWallet or card company, these bookmakers are violating our law so dont service them.
