Hmmmm.....something is fishy here. Looks like Christie didnt actually repeal the state's sports betting laws, which makes things still illegal under Federal law. I emailed Senator Lesniak and told him to keep that veto over-ride in his back pocket.

Good news. Just heard back from Senator Lesniak - he is prepared to move on the veto over-ride if this method fails.

Good luck on all of this I'm rooting for New Jersey even know I think it's going to fail even if it does kick off

Sports leagues are waiting for the lawsuits to begin

I don't think the private regulators will have the money to fight them off

Monmouth, et al know all this. They wont need money - in a high profile case like this, they will have plenty of lawyers willing to work for free. Also, this case wont make it past the initial stages - there is no law under which the leagues can sue.

Don't care how arrogant the governing bodies of major sports leagues may be (looking at you NFL), other than lobby dollars they hold no leverage over what gamblers do. Adam Silver (NBA commissioner) realizes as much and has all but said the league would embrace it. He's being smart, sees it as another revenue stream. It's gonna happen, sooner or later. If all the conservatives out there truly believe what they espouse, less government more personal responsibility, they should be in total support. Not holding my breath, but let the dollars start flowing they'll come around.

Many more people smoke marijuana than bet sports

Billion-dollar companies were not against marijuana legalization

You don't know Calif politicians. If it's good for the economy, they'll stall it.

Yeah, if you're discounting the pharmaceutical companies. Where did you come up with this magical stat? Off the top of your head? Oh, wait...

Pharmaceutical companies were not making much off medical marijuana

Gambling and marijuana smoking are not comparable at all

Marijuana smoking is much more accepted as a healthy way of living vs sports betting

Incorrect. The special interest $$$ that are/were against MMJ legalization dwarf the special interests against sports betting. Pharma companies, prison guard unions, doctors, disease societies, police departments, etc etc etc

But once NJ says we won't enforce anything, who cares what the "courts" or "suits" say or do? They are only a fake figurehead at that point, which won't get enforced.

It just seems too good to be true because if New Jersey starts taking wagers or 49 other states will

The problem here and always has been is that when these league fix their games they want there share of the money. Been the hold up all this time. Why would they want people reaping rewards on all their hard work fixing games? Oh and JJ loses a lot of customers if this happen.
