Dear Customer Important Notice Affecting Your Account - Please ReadThe Management of Triplebet Limited, the owners and operators of Matchbook, have recently undertaken a comprehensive review of all operations and have made the regrettable decision to cease operations in your jurisdiction effective as of 23 July 2014 .Matchbook shall no longer accept wagers or any other gaming activity from your jurisdiction, and all existing accounts shall be closed. Any bets that were made prior to 23 July 2014 shall remain 'open' and winnings will be settled as normal with funds available for withdrawal as soon as the market has been completed. Please ensure that you have withdrawn any funds standing in your account by 22 August 2014; if you do not withdraw the funds yourself then where possible we shall make the withdrawal on your behalf to your bank account or payment wallet. If we do not have any payment details for you on record, then we cannot guarantee that you will be able to receive your funds. If you have moved country since you set up your account with Matchbook, you may be able to register a new account with Matchbook. You should register a new account with Matchbook in the usual way, and shall be required to provide supporting documentation.

Moneybookers leaves Canada......books are dropping Instadebit left right and center.....and now Matchbook leaves the Canadian market.

Clearly something is going on behind the scenes. I'm not so sure that its just that the Canadian laws are too "grey" for these companies.

This could be it for me. Just not enough books to use anymore, and not enough e-wallets.

    Hi guys,

It is a business decision on Matchbook's part. If you are a Canadian holding funds with Matchbook, please proceed to withdraw your funds as normal. Outstanding bets will be settled as normal at which point winnings can be withdrawn.

My theory is that too many Americans have found ways to operate Matchbook and Skrill accounts in Canada from the USA. I think this has to do with pressure from the DOJ.

Very possible that it is pressure from the DOJ

-Bill C-31 so called "bitcoin regulation" by FINTRAC. It's really an anti-laundering law getting put on the books although they are calling it the bitcoin one. The thing is it also targets online "casinos". The government sometimes has a different concept of what constitutes "casino" activity and sports betting/poker/games may fall under this umbrella. They are tightening down on processors and those who do business with them. Only on law books comes 2015 but may give leeway to look at prior years because of "criminality". Likely reason IMO.

-bill C290 is getting out of the senate. Expect competition to be wiped out by the provincial lotteries when they get their hand in the pot for single game wagering. Ideally they would license it to operators like the UK but I don't see that happening considering the penchant for provincial specific laws. Less likely reason.

In the end both clusterfucks for the canadian gambler.

    Horrible news for Canadians.
Wondering how much effect this will have on Matchbook liquidity.
Would expect they probably have quite a significant Canadian membership.

A law just coming into effect in Canada now requires banks to officially report all Canadian bank account transactions in bank accounts owned by Americans now living in Canada to the US government. This law was passed to aid the US in catching income tax evaders.

So some transactions between Canadian Banks and sportsbooks will now be disclosed to the US government and since the Sportsbooks don't know which Canadians are American ex-patriots, they ban all of Canada.

    Mike,

Having issue accessing my matchbook account. Getting no response from support and resetting the password doesn't send me a reset email. Sent you an email that i've sent to support.

    Thanks,

You should get into specifics. For some of us this isn't a hobby and our way of life keeps getting attacked from all sides and all we are left to do is speculate.

    I agree.

Quite ridiculous that we just can't get straight answers on such important topics.

But I'm willing to bet the blame can be traced to the US.

    Hi guys,

We won’t be making further comment on our business decision but outstanding bets will be settled as normal, and all funds can be withdrawn as normal.

    Thanks,
