Do a google search on it. Best approach to take is bet betpoints. You most likely save yourself some $$$. GL.

Virtually every aspect of sports betting has been addressed here in some form. You have to do the searching yourself though. No one will spoon feed you the answers.

Best way to start would be to search for JJGold. Some say his skin has the same texture as a dolphin and that no matter where you are in the world, if you tune your radio to 88.4 you can actually hear his thoughts. Some say he appears on high value stamps in Sweden and that he is illegal in 17 states. Some say he never blinks and that he roams around the woods at night foraging for wolves...

Disregard some of these numnuts above...they are obvious losing a-holes. If anyone on this site tells you differ they are fuccing lying.

I recommend you do NOT get into sports betting. It's addictive and you will lose! In honesty...I have gambled for over 15 years. I had my first winning season in NFL, this year. I hit 67% in NCAAB tourn last year. I've had my first winning season in NBA this season...SO FAR. My only sport that I have won year out is MLB.. but I lose those winnings when I gamble on others. I'm an addict.

The ONLY way to learn sports betting is by trial an error. If you don't hit over 52% on the dime with a flat consistent (bet) win... you will never win. These LOCKS...GOYS, etc...save your money...they are no better than you.

I was wondering if you guys could help me with this, I'm having a hard time understanding this basics here

Okay, this is an example from the NHL Dallas vs Anaheim

    Side
    Dallas : -1 and 1/2 +255
    Anaheim - +1 and 1/2 -305

So, im assuming side means spread or line? Does this mean that Anaheim has to win by at least 2 points?
Also, if you bet 100 on Dallas you win 255... and if you bet 305 on Anaheim you win 100??

    Also, for the Money line,

    Dallas : -110
    Anaheim : -110

Does this mean its a coin flip?

Sorry guys, poker player here trying to learn how to bet sports.. any help is appreciated

Side, in general, refers to the spread but in a sport where the most common bets are moneyline (baseball and hockey, for example), I've seen it used to mean the moneyline (so essentially when used in that manner, it means the most common way to bet on one team or the other in that particular sport, as opposed to betting on the total). I believe SportsOptions uses the term like that.

+1.5 means they are getting the points (goals, actually, as this is hockey). So if Anaheim loses by 1 goal, your bet still wins. If you had Dallas, you would need them to win by at least 2 goals to win your bet. For NHL, the spread is always 1.5 one way or the other, and they just change the price (in hockey, the spread is more commonly the puckline; in baseball it is generally called the runline).

jgilmartin thanks for your reply, I read both of those articles you posted for me. Still a bit confused about something. I know that on the

money line if a team has say, -140 that means that they are the Favorite.

But then take the "side" or "spread example" where Anaheim is +1 and 1/2 -305 . They are giving Anaheim 1.5 points advantage but also

since the -305 they are the Favorite on top of that?? It just dosen't seem fair to me..to give the Favorite an extra 1.5 points

Thanks golf, im checking that site out right now there's quite a bit of definitions there. I guess im just stuck on the fact, well here's another example:

    Calgary +1.5 (-240)
    Vancouver -1.5 (+200)

What i've been reading is Vancouver would have to win by (2) or more points.

But when I take a theoretical score of say Vancouver - 6, Calgary - 4

    Vancouver : 6 - 1.5 = 4.5
    Calgary : 4 + 1.5 = 5.5

And Calgary appears to have still won.....

You either deduct the 1.5 from Vanc or add the 1.5 to Calgary. You do not do both. In that case Vancouver covered the number.

Ahhh i get it now lol. So it doesn't matter which figure that you use as long as you are only using (1) of them.

Which makes sense because there can never be a tie. I'm just wondering why anyone would ever bet Vancouver? In that example They have

to win By 2 and they are Also the underdogs... It just doesn't seem like a profitable play

If they win by 2 and you put up a $100 you win back $200. If you take Calgary and they cover you would have had to risk $240 to win $100. Hope you see the difference. You are getting much better odds to lay the 1.5 goals.

In addition, I really think following people on PreGame is nearly a better chance at winning than guys that have to sell picks to users. Way I have looked at it over the past month is that if you have to sell your picks for $100 a month then you must not be as good as people expect you to be. If you can't make a profit off your own picks then why do you need more money from random betters.

Because selling picks gets you guaranteed income, most probably regular as well. Just because you win at sports does not mean you should turn down business opportunities or bypass any good deal that comes your way.
