SBR John: In his own words

From EOG, when they were discussing a implementing a rating system more objective than SBR's:

The first year survival rate for any new book, not connected with an established book like BetJam and ThrGreek [sic], over the past ten years is less than 10%. If you rated a new book that has only 1 in 10 chance of surviving year 1 higher than a D the entire rating system would be completely meaningless imho.
It's a shame John & Co. are so obviously capable of forming honest and helpful judgments about sportsbooks and the industry, but their silence (and a higher grade here at SBR) can ultimately be bought. If they couldn't, how could he contradict himself with a rating above a D for BetIslands?

Rogue you're an idiot any1 with strong funding is an obvious exception. He's referring to guys trying their luck with a turnkey operation - the majority of whom is well underfunded

In my opinion, SBR has the right idea and its intentions used to be in the right place as a "watchdog" for the player.

Emphasis on "used to be." Maybe this BI situation is a blessing in disguise and SBR can get back to its reason for existing instead of getting in bed with some of these books in exchange for a false seal of approval.

To my knowledge, they were a non-entity until Jon left BetPhoenix/WagerChief in Q4 of 2010, and BetIslands started to be marketed as a forum facing "legitimate" brand in Q2 of 2011 using the Jazz infrastructure.

That's 18 months ago, tops, and also meets my definition of a "turnkey" operation, Baumchimp (jpb383). Who, with the benefit of what we know now, could call them anything but underfunded?

started at C- in march 2011 I guess?

given above a D, on the curve because of the luke warm success of Wagerchief?

    full quotes might be helpful

There can be rare exceptions like BetPhoenix who was started by one of the owners of Diamond, an A+ book and a known operator. In all these type ratings you are really rating the owner. In this case we dont know who they are and apparently they have no track record they are willing to share.

Antigua may be worth 1 point and Curacao maybe 1 over CR, certainly not 5 a half a letter grade. WSEX, Hogans and others have slow paid and no paid there with zero repercussions. Both places do charge a steep license fee which keeps some of the rift raft out so maybe a point for that.

BetIslands added to SBR sportsbook ratings guide

03.22.2011 (05:23 PM CST)BetIslands.com has been added to the SBR sportsbook ratings guide at C-. BetIslands is managed by Jon Kreta, who founded WagerChief (SBR rating B-) in December of 2008. WagerChief was acquired by BetPhoenix (SBR rating B-) in July of 2009. In January of 2011, Jon officially left WagerChief to take over the BetIslands brand.

BetIslands is a turnkey on the DPT Sports Group platform, which also powers Jazz Sports (SBR rating C-), ABC Islands (SBR rating C-), and LooseLines (SBR rating C-).

I'm now blaming the Betphoenix connection

WagerChief was no more a part of BetPho than BetIslands was of either Jazz or EZStreet. Not to mention, that by the time Jon abandoned the WagerChief skin with BetPhoenix, that entire family of books was showing an inability to keep up with payouts in a timely manner.

You shouldn't get a ratings bump for an abandoned skin at one book only to try your hand at another, under an even less financially stable umbrella group than the first, IMO.

I agree with MUHerd. Enough is enough. Jon has apologized, what more do you need? Let's all forget it and try to look for a new book. Preferably one located in Costa Rica and that SBR recommends. CR whores need that dough.

what incentive does sbr john and the ones running sbr have to be truthful and ethical in their actions. so long as people still come here, go pro, use the ads here to sign up at a book, they will still make money.

since most of you come here for the social interaction, he doesn't have to worry about a decline in sales. everyone should have followed jj gold in his exit. if you bitch but don't leave, the jokes on you.

    It's pretty obvious.

No one in SBR's administration is 1/2 as smart as Rogue.

It's understandable why they wouldn't keep this thread on PT, and why none of them will touch it. I'd imagine John and Dozer are stabbing their RJ voodoo dolls right about now.

Betislands seduced SBR like a sugar daddy does with a woman. hell there was only a few names assoiciated with betislands becuase this was not a big book. The thing that made me laugh and still does at the time was 'we decided to grab the op the buy a smaller book"(7red)
