I basically live in an NFL city (Brett Favre used to be our starting qb) any way an acquaintance of mine informed me of a new good fella in town that was taking sports wagers and gave me all the appropriate contact info. Tough gig these days since last 3 local agents I previously used have all been busted. Anyway I call new guy in town and ask what he has for a line on our local team vs Joe Montana's ex-team. He tell's me local team -6.5 and o/u 46.5, so I tell him I'll pony up 1.5 dimes on the visitor @ + 6.5 , he gives me a very funny look and says "not so fast my friend- you asked for the line on the P*%kers not the 49'ers. So I ask " What the F8ck is the difference". Needless to say he said that line is @ + 5.5 so I called him crook and told him I' d take visitors @ + 5.5 and risk 5 dimes. Once again he gives me a dumb founded look and says " max I can take on that play is $100 @ -$125" . Why the F*ck should anyone play with these local cronies when you coul play @ numerous off-shore venture with better lines and a lower vig.

Locals do have advantages if you find ones that are legit or even some pph guys.

Using a reliable local through a PPH shop is probably the best way to go.

Let's be realistic though. There's a big difference between meeting someone you know at a Tasty Freeze parking lot to pick up 8k in cash on a Thursday, and getting 3k checks once a week and then depositing them, knowing there's a 2% chance that check will bounce because the feds seized the account it was in. Sure, you know it will be re-issued, but by then, your bank account went negative (because you spent the money), you got charged fees, you are now looked at more closely, and it's embarrassing.

I'm not knocking offshore, I LOVE offshore, and let's be fair, if your local bookie gets busted and his money seized from the earth he had it buried in, you could be out of luck to collect. But the feds have made getting paid and depositing a major pain in the rear, regardless of how solid an offshore shop is.

Personally, I prefer offshore shops, but there is a huge advantage to getting paid in cash, in full, when you want it, fast, with no headaches. Man, I miss the golden days of Neteller.

I use locals because they inflate the lines on favs. Easy pickens. They are running Carolina panthers at -3.5. I'm unloading on Tampa.
