    Definitely moving up.

When Sugar House first opened here in Philly, it was really no big deal because they didn't have hardly any table games. No Texas Hold Em, no blackjack, just slots and 3 card poker.

Now, since they've added those table games like hold em and blackjack, their business is booming.

I know AC has got to be concerned.

There was even talk of Foxwoods opening a second casino in Philly, competing with Sugar House.

Foxwoods won the bid for the license but it got tangled up in the courts after they missed several deadlines required by the city and state.

It now appears that the license is going back up for bids, either for Philly or elsewhere in the state.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a second casino in Philly though.

This is in addition to Sugar House, Philadelphia Park, and Harrah's Chester.

    Philly/Pennsylvania is definitely booming.

Pennsylvania accounted for around 33% of AC's business before PA casinos..........

im within 30 min of 2 pa casinos and 4 nights of the week you could barely get on any tables. buisness is def. up and money they bring in weekly is high. they post the casinos earnings in the paper almost weekly and its a high amount.

Looks like Pennsylvania is handing New Jersey it's ass in the gaming industry.

There used to be tons of bus trips from Harrisburg to AC for the casinos. Now that Hollywood Casino in Grantville has table games and eleventy million slot machines, nobody bothers spending for a bus or dropping a hundy on gas roundtrip.

    Yep.

In defense of AC I will say this though.

None of the Pa. casinos has the atmosphere of AC.

Yes, Sugar House is much more convinient for me to go to, but it has none of the qualities of Atlantic City.

Especially in the summer. In AC, you got the boardwalk, you got the ocean, you got the smell of saltwater in the air.

You get none of that in the Pa. casinos.

The giant advantage the Pa. casinos have is convenience.

Beautiful racetrack. Ordinary, smallish casino, nice card room.

    Depends on what you mean.

If you mean the casino itself it can be hard to get a table on nights when they are packed.

The track is a good place to spend an afternoon. Food is not good. Especially if you're used to eating on the level offered in AC at the Borgata.

Location is questionable as there is a prison right across the street lol.

Overall, not bad but there are definitely better places to go.

Not surprising with what I have heard there. They keep the PA'ers who headed to AC, while northern PA can lure New Yorkers. Did their homework pretty well with all this and should keep booming.

Even Mississippi casino industry is booming. In Louisiana this week and was talking to a guy at Hollywood in Baton Rouge who actually explained Mississippi as having a North, Central, and Coastal sector

Apparently even with one shutting down recently in Vicksburg the state is doing well with all the ones in Biloxi and Tunica and the tiny Philadelphia 'resort'.

    Who woulda thought

They do well because Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee do not have casinos (except for a couple quasi-Indian slot parlors in Alabama). if Georgia ever opens a casino...... then Mississippi will decline as well. What Mississippi does have is the Gulf of Mexico in Biloxi......

And this is surprising for what reason?

West Virginia offered slots. Pennsylvania offered slots.
West Virginia offered card game. Pennsylvania offered card games.
When a neighboring state offers sports betting, you can be sure Pennsylvania will follow.

PA is also an "old" state. tied with Florida for 5th oldest population, lots of senior citizens because their is a brain drain..young educated professionals don't stay in PA, they leave the state for greener pastures. median age

Old people love to stuff coins into slot machines..think the blinking lights hypnotize them or something

Rivers and Meadows are pretty nice out west. When I'm in NJ I prefer going to Mt. Airy instead of AC. Shorter drive, and much less risk of getting stabbed in the parking lot. Atlantic City allowed itself to get too ghetto.

    PA is smart.

They're taking away business from NJ and keeping folks in the state.

NJ has a tough road ahead.

Wonder if them losing business to PA is one of the factors in them moving forward with the internet gambling legislation?

PA will be losing Ohio money very soon.

Clevelands Horseshoe casino opens on May 14th.

I use to love the fact that Presque isle downs and casino was only 80 minutes away but now the new horseshoe will only be 10 minutes away.

Now just as soon as AC or PA allows sports betting, I'll actually go to them... I'm close to Parx, but I've never bothered to go... Give me sports betting and I'll never leave!
