How much is a half point worth?

I often find myself having to decide between a half point (at Betislands) or the reduced juice (at 5Dimes) on a game. How much, on average, is a half point worth? I know books charge 10 cents to buy a half point, which means in all likeliehood, it's worth less than that (the books are making money by selling us half points at 10 cents). So, what is a half point worth? 5 cents? 3 cents? 7 cents? Anyone have any statistics?

All of them. I know that in football, how much a half point is worth is hugely dependent on the number (worth much more on or off the numbers 3,6,7,etc) but, I get reduced juice and a free half point in all sports (not including the above numbers in football), so, I was wondering how much they are worth, on average, in the different sports.

I would say you are correct 10 cents , i mean on all the numbers they would be worth more the half point is restricted.

In the end I would almost say the 05 is a better bet.

It is based on historical margins of victory but some of the data is now out of date.

It also has some flaws in that it does not fully account for the base spread and takes no account at all of the projected total.

Let's take basketball. If the line was 5.5 and you were taking the favorite or dog I would go with the free 1/2 point so you do not lose if it lands on 5 or 6. If the line was 5, I would go with reduced juice as you are not going to lose either way if it lands on 5.

The free half point is the way to go in both instances.

    doesn't worth IMO.please ask yourself,

how many bets loss by 0,5 points in 100 bets ? and how many bets void by 0,5 in 100 bets?

total %5-6 bets void and loss by 0,5

but the book asks %10 of your profit. is this fair? I don't think so.

It's around 4% where the half point is a factor but that is the equivalent of 8 cents on the odds. So unless you can get reduced juice down to -102, the half point is more valuable.

You need to do the real calculation, not just by the feel. You are actually ahead when buying half with 10c in this case.
