The real truth why offshore sites are switching to the .eu domain

This article lays out very articulately the current demise of the .com, *along with the simultaneous transition to the .eu domain for Sportsbook sites.

I found this and two other great short reports by simply googling:

[.eu domains gain popularity with sportsbooks]

It also seems .eu is a far more inclusive domain than .ag (from a marketing standpoint), since .eu can be branded with greater efficacy worldwide.

I reread what I wrote a month ago, and I find it more germane in this post:

This is clearly validated by the preemptive move of shops like bookmaker, Sportsbook, and BoDog who have already changed to .eu or .ag.

I have read many articles preaching the wisdom of this behavior of books as 1) Not waiting till they get seized,
    2) Obtaining the .eu extension while the market for that extension is still relatively cheap, and perhaps the most compelling: 3) Understanding the marketing importance of not getting left behind as
the public awareness, acceptance and safety of the .eu climbs every day.

This is a richly fascinating arena, in no small measure due to it's similarities to the 'Wealth Upside' granted to those possessing the foresight of the Internet years ago.

They're changing out of fear of being seized. Keep in mind the most reputable companies in the industry do not accept US players. Do you see them changing to .eu anytime soon? pinnaclesports.eu, sbobet.eu, betfair.eu, bwin.eu, williamhill.eu, ladbrokes.eu etc. I don't see those all happening anytime soon.

Correct. If you think about it Non US accepting books are safer on the .com than they would be on the .eu. You want an extension that the master registrar is NOT located in or have power over. You could have the French claim so&so broke french law and they order the domain name confiscated. In that case, you would rather have a .com than a .eu.

Bottomline is ALL companies should have a suite of extensions such as .com, .eu, .lv, .ca. Bodog proved to us that any troll can grab your domain name.
