what is considered a large wager these days

    100.00 1,000.00 10,000.00 100,000.00 1 mill

i know guys who bet 100 so im thinking thats average 1,000 would be considered high by many bettors but in reality it isnt a really big bet....

10,000.00 on 1 game or series or anything for that matter i would consider a high wager these days

you have to either have alot of balls or have a large bankroll

100k is just a insane bet if you can move this kind of bet it would take so much many books cant even take that kinda action.....even vegas wouldnt take 100k wager these days......

1 mill on a game just doesnt happen and the only occasion that maybe this would be even considered is even superbowl or a major event....but for a random baseball game no way no how

would like thoughts on this......maybe im wrong......

depends on the book which is booking the action,
for some rec books a 1000 dollar wager is a large one , for others 2500 (greek) and books like pinnacle wont see anything below 10 000 as a large wager.

none of the US books have more than 5k limits....except in NFL.

non-US books have very high limits. Pinnacle has 42k limits. Exchanges...well...you can bet into millions.

Those numbers are coming down due to economy

$1000 wagers are considered fairly large now

Bookmaker will take $500,000 on regular season NBA games. I heard of someone putting $200,000 on Arizona in college basketball.

I think anything around $5,000 is a pretty big bet.

    ridiculous question

    all things are relative

for a book or for a punter ?

$10 is big for some people I know, $10,000 isn't for others

In my years of experience, I find that most people units are 100 dollars. So taking that into account I would probably lean that 10 units is a pretty big wager.

So 1,000 dollars would be regarded as a big bet. Anything over that with an average bankroll is ridiculous and quite frankly bad money management unless you make a deal with the devil. In which that would quite frankly bad investment overall.

5% would be more than large .. it would be absurdly obscene if you are betting big underdogs

I've had $13000 on a game... Miami +5/ML vs FSU on 9/6/2009.... Great game... and I sweat it out the whole time but Miami won all of my bets.

Also had $11000 on ATL/Houston Under 7.5 a couple days after... Dont remember the score or even who won... but I know it was Wandy vs. Hansen and I won easily.

Nowadays? 5000 is considered a rarity.

indeed. you are on your way to losing it all if you do 5%, irrespectful of betting dogs or not.

for a book, i'd say 1000$ is big enough - it means it gets a good customer with, say, avg 3% return per bet.

Everything is relative... making this thread fairly silly. The answer will vary GREATLY for both books and players.
