Both bodog and bookmaker have used .net sites to lure players in with free contests, in hopes of converting them over to their real money sites. So it makes sense.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, I don't think that's what the article is referring to.

They were advertising those sites a lot in the US and making themselves bigger targets.

If true, and that's a legit IF b/c there's no reason any media site would have perfect knowledge of how any book or poker site runs, it certainly makes things sound a little better and supports Bookmaker's "business as usual" assertion.

If you have to bet on the intelligence of the USA government vs the offshore big boys--bet on the big boys everytime. They have been anticipating all of this for some time.

Figured I'd give you props for this statement before the "It's all over!" crowd chimes in.

Do people think it was a coincidence that Bookmaker had new URL sites up and running within hours of the news?

If they did not grab lots of cash maybe its not a big deal but seizing domain names is scary

Bodog definitely made a deal w/ the Feds. Probably paying some insider a million a week just to sweep any injustices under the rug.

Although I did see they changed their domain to Bodog.eu. I love that they are claiming that it was to extend to new markets

Bodog.com does direct to bodog.eu but that doesn't mean they have any pending indictments. It probably just means they are preparing themselves for a worst case scenario.

If there's anyone the feds would like to get their hands on, it's Calvin Ayre.

I received an email about the switch from them 40 minutes ago...I think most sites should take this precaution!

i wouldnt call them safe. i had 75 dollar on there last night, and lost it in a wsop satellite. depositing anywhere right now is not a good idea. they appear to be ahead of the game at least.

Even typing in bodog.com it redirects you to the new address...so there is really nothing for the DOJ to seize

In 30 days all the books will have something other than .com and .net.

SBR has considered it well before any of this started but decided the .com had the best search engine rankings. But when you are a foreign company you take a chance at being sued and having to defend yourself against expensive frivolous lawsuits. And if you can't afford to defend yourself then the plaintiff can be awarded your domain name. Bodog had a case where some obscure patent troll received their bodog.com domain because bodog did not bother showing up for court. The US figures until someone challenges them they will grab the .com's.

While the .eu move is in line with Alwyn's plans, here's another piece which explains why a .eu domain is the way to go these days!

When WSEX was charged they didn't skip a beat. It is business as usual. New website, maybe some delays getting paid until they get some shit sorted out but it's not the end of the world.

The government wants to intimidate offshore companies and players to protect special interests like horse betting over the internet, brick and mortar tax paying casinos, and gay ass Fantasy sports that pay royalties to the sports leagues. That's all this is, intimidation. There haven't been any arrests in the latest wave of indictments and there probably won't be any.

    That's my 2 cents
