    why is there no stopping of the clock in soccer?

    I just watched a game and still cant figure out why they dont stop the clock when the ball goes out of bounds or on goals etc...

    because there is no time out and the soccer field is bigger than football or basketball.......

    yeah thats normal in soccer. for that there will be extra time shown when 45min or 90min is reached (mostly 1-4min extra)

    The clock would be stopping all the time.

    The ref adds extra time to each half to make up for time lost during regular play. For things like substitutions, injuries, fouls, etc. Even though the extra time is not exact.

    That's how it's always been in soccer.

    Just being picky, but 'extra time' actually refers to the 30 minutes of extra play when a tournament match is drawn after the regular 90 minutes. The added time at the end of each half is 'stoppage' or 'injury' time.

    Either way, cannot believe Maximus is just now learning such a thing.
