    My football/soccer/footy- Leans & Discussions

After the failure of the WC thread, which I abandoned half-way through the season and started posting in my man lakerboy's thread, I have decided to start a thread for my picks through the football season. It's going to be a long ride but I'm hoping we all end on a positive note.

My first official pick of the season was-

Sweden have won their last four games in their homeland, scoring four goals each time. They welcome back Zlatan Ibhrahimovic, who will be looking to make an impression in front of the home crowd.

Scotland have lots of problems. Goalkeeper Craig Gordon and defender Gary Caldwell are injured. Lee McCulloch, Alan Hutton, Andy Webster,Graham Dorrans and David Marshall all pulled out, while Scott Brown travelled with the party despite an injury that will mean he will only sit on the bench.

Very experimental team for Scotland and I expect Sweden to prevail without much trouble.
in my friend Tommy's thread- http://www.sportsbookreview.com/forum/soccer-han...occer-p13.html

You can find me there as well, posting my picks and discussing footy.

I might post other sports' picks as well, but don't look for them too often.

    Good luck.

Lets hope for a better outcome then the WC. Realized you ditched it half way through, might wait on it before I tail some of your plays to see if your good or not. Cheers!

I love doing Antepost bets. I usually let most ride but I love laying the ones bigger odds later on. Like I did with the Uruguay/Forlan winner/Golden ball double at the World Cup. Got it at 1500/1 and by the time I laid it during the semi's, the odds were around 12/1.

Here are my anteposts for the coming season-

Genoa to finish in the top ten at 1/2

Books are giving money away with this

    Liverpool over 68 points @ 5/6
We got 63 last time and were dog shit, can you really see us not adding 6 more points?

Gylfi Sigurdsson Championship top scorer e/w at 33/1

In the second half of last season, Reading were the 3rd best team in the Championship, only behind the top two teams in the league in Newcastle and WBA. After Brian McDermott was officially announced as Reading manager in January he went on to guide them to 12 wins in their remaining 20 games, only losing 4 of them.

Sigurdsson scored 16 goals in 32 starts last season and during McDermott's official tenure last term, he scored an impressive 10 goals in 15 starts. Given the manager is in charge from the start of the season and Gylfi takes free-kicks and pens, looks good to me. Good for a lay later on.

Middlesbrough to get promoted @ 2/1

Glasgow Rangers & Celtic, sorry, Middlesbrough's squad, looks very impressive to me. Scott McDonald and Kris Boyd banged them in for the fun in that non-real football league up north, with the latter being the league's record scorer, Leroy Lita has form for this league too, a strong midfield in Julio Arca, Gary O'Neill, Kevin Thomson and Barry Robson, all based on impressive English defence in David Wheater, Matthew Bates, Andrew Taylor and Justin Hoyte. Strachan didn't perform too well last season, only 9 wins in 33, but he's now had his chance to make a mark on the squad, brought in his own players, so will be looking for a strong season.

I can see Smogs nodding his head in agreement at this.

Darren Bent to be top English goal scorer at 15/2

To be honest this one is pretty self explanatory. Will be Sunderland’s leading man and given the games, will score plenty of goals. Only Frank Lampard @ 9’s and Jermaine Beckford @ 66’s have tempted me in the each way market.

    Spurs for the League @66/1

Bit of a daft bet but at the time I thought it was a little bit of value and since then the price has halved so I suppose I have got value. I was impressed with them last season and when you consider they dropped some really silly points (6 at home to Wolves and Stoke alone), if they'd strengthened their squad they could have made a real push for the title this season, they still could but I'm not really confident. Will be a good price for a lay sometime during the season.

Porto for the Europa League @ 33/1

They're usually in the latter stages of the Champions League but had a poor season last season meaning that they're in the Europa League this. They've got a phenomenal home record in Europe and will still be in the mix of this come next April. They've kept the core of last season's side, which was pretty good together and added to it very well. One problem they had was that they didn't really replace Lucho who left for Marseille - well they've done that this summer with Moutinho. I'm presuming their midfield will involve him sitting deep with Raul Meireles who impressed so much at the World Cup.

In support of that you've got players like Cristian Rodriguez, Jorge Fucile, Bruno Alves, Mariano Gonzalez, Hulk, Fernando Belluschi, and obviously, Falcao up front the goalscoring machine that he is. And then there's the addition of Colombian wonderkid James Rodriguez.

Own goals are also 2/1 to outscore Michael Owen

Only because I hate the Judas twat.

Got a few others including Newcastle getting relegated, a treble of Newcastle, West Brom and Blackpool getting relegated, top scorers in the La Liga and Serie A, which I will be sharing later.

Not liking a lot today but have some slight leans.

I was looking at Irish footy earlier and liked the following-

    Bray Wanderers -:- St.Patricks

    Drogheda -:- Shamrock

    Bohemians -:- Galway

Don't play them too big. Small stakes on each of the games.

    Good luck.

I don't want anyone to tail me blindly, which is why I mentioned my World Cup thread in the opening post. However, I did make a profit on the World Cup. I abandoned my thread and started posting my leans in lakerboy's thread, where I did a whole lot better. You can check his thread or my post history and see I did well towards the latter part of the tournament.

I messed up massively on the units during the World Cup. I'm awful at determining what number of units I should play on each game, which is why I'm letting people choose for themselves how much they want to put on. I will mention if it' a strong play or not.

Even if I lose, I'll continue this thread throughout the season and not chicken out like I did with the World Cup. I'm hoping people come in and give insightful contributions.

Hope you have a great season ahead.

    Good luck.

Good to see fellow Reds on here, mate. Good times are coming ahead. We might get new owners very soon; even today or tomorrow. Can't wait for a new era!

Didn't quite understand Liege. Down 2-0, make it 3-2 but then concede in the 88th minute. Oh well.

Think quite a few people got burned bad with Wigan.

Sods law that you battle like absolute ******* lions for 44 minutes with 10 men and a 1-0 lead ... then (probably) the 2nd best goalie in the world drops an absolute ******* bollock and you have to "settle" for a point. Yep, the football season is back alright...!

Good luck for the season pal (The bets that is, not so much Liverpool )
