    Realistically, how far does the U.S go?

    First off, I am very doubtful about this team, just like I was 4 years ago. We really have not improved and judging by our pre-world cup games, I'm not liking our chances. I know we were undermanned in our loss to Czech, I live in CT so I got to see the game live but realistically its difficult to see the U.S going very far. While, admittedly i'm not the biggest soccer fan nor the most knowledgable but it seems like our performance in the Confederation Cup was a fluke and there is no way we will endure that success in the world cup. My prediction is a loss to England to start and we will barely make it out of our Group just to lose the first game out of it. Even with this said, I will be cheering 100% and wouldn't admit to what I am thinking with some of my foreign friends and would never bet against my country.

    Now that I'm done. Thoughts about where the U.S will end up?

    It's a toss up between Slovenia and USA for 2nd. If they play like they did vs Turkey in all 3 games with a little bit of luck for goals they are through.

    If ANY U.S Team wants to win something its this one. Donovan is in his PRIME in my opinion and Jozy Altidore is a great addition up front. Agile yet strong on the pitch. I see another nice run somthing similar to 2002 South Korea/Japan. Round of 16 and a slight chance of Round of 8 is my pridiction. I honestly could see a draw against England no bullshit!! Look for a good performance from this team.

    Totally disagree with this, even the US players know that 4 years from now they will be at least 10x stronger as a team.

    Im assuming Donovan and Dempsey will not be in the next Cup... so we'll have to see how the other players step-up to at least give us a chance in 2014

    I'm not saying Slovenia will get out of group but did you see Slovenia in action? We played against Slovakia,Poland,Ireland and eliminate Russia,where every one said "goodbye Slovenia" and now? We are playing at WC and they don't
    And I'm curious where would USA be after playing qualification against these teams?

    And don't forget that friendly match against England, where we could pulled draw but referee showed to penalty point after "tackle" over Rooney. If that was penalty you can judge your self.

    My picks will be
    Slovenia vs England - england to win or draw(small stakes)
    Slovenia vs USA- Slovenia to win
    Slovenia vs Algeria - Slovenia to win or draw

    The problem for USA fans is that they have no idea about Slovenia. They could definitely beat USA and qualify instead.

    Our tournament will be decided by our 2nd match in group vs Slovenia. If we face Germany in the R16, I GUARANTEE you Donovan has not forgotten about 2002 and will be out for revenge in this game. We will avenge the injustice of 2002 and go on to the SF, and probably lose to Argentina or Uruguay.

    That's the best case scenario, IMO. I'd love to even just get out of group stages. The key is getting points against Slovenia.

    Worst comes to worst Slovenia will advance on goal difference . Slovenia plays very organized as a team and they are very good defensive ,they only conceded 4 goals in qualifying.
    USA have big defensive problems i mean US is terrible in the back .

    I expect England to trash team US . England and US plays same style of soccer .
    Fast and wide open ,only England 10 times better and faster .

    The U.S. team will be depleted during the next world cup with the lack of Donovan on the field. He's the only game changer they have. I see no one on that team that's going to do anything in 4 years.

    They already peaked in the confederations cup, mid-level teams like them sleep for some time after a good showing. I think they will flop and wont qualify for the next round.

    i don't think the USA will ever be able to be a top program on the world level, there are just to many sports in America, most of the best athletes play other sports, and soccer in American not only competes for fans with other pro sports, but also against college sports.
