    Gold Cup 2021

    Time to kick off yet another international tournament on Saturday. I love it, not much else on the radar in July.
    El Salvador v Curacao
    The opening game of the tournament I feel will be played cautiously as both nations will not want to lose having Mexico on tap and a winnable game versus Trinidad & Tobago.The past 5 head to head fixtures have all had 2 or fewer goals. This game screams draw & under however there is little value in both so I'm being creative here;
    1. El Salvador/Curacao UNDER 2 @ 1.91/-110 (2u) Bet365
    2. CS 1-1 @ 5.50/+450 (1/2 Unit) Bet365

    Well it looks like Curacao got shafted by Covid & were replaced by Guatemala plays 1-3 are void

    Mexico v Trinidad
    This will be Mexico's easiest game and I believe they destroy T&T. Mexico just beat Panama 3-0 & Nigeria 4-0. This fixture will be 3rd game in 9 days for Trinidad who barely got by French Guiana in penalty kicks. Lets add to that the fact that all the support will be pro Mexico.

    Even without David & Davies, Canada will be too much to handle for Martinique. The last Gold Cup these sides met and Canada won 4-0. Martinique have not even played a game since 2019.

    I see goals here. Haiti's last 2 games 6-1 & 4-1 wins where as the Americans 3-2 & 4-0 wins. Haiti is really bad at defending so I see a 4-1 type of match.

    Guatemala v El Salvador
    Guatemala are lucky to be here after CONCACAF invited them as the highest seed with the Covid issues by Curacao. These sides just met a few weeks ago with a 0-0 scoreline and I think we see a little of that today as well.

    Jamaica v Suriname
    Both sides have really decent attacking talent in their squad. Suriname have scored 17 goals in their past 5 games, where as Jamaica have averaged 2.25 goals scored since the last Gold Cup in 2019. The last meeting between these sides ended with a 2-1 win for Jamaica.

    Costa Rica v Guadeloupe
    Costa Rica are a very old squad with 10 players on the wrong side of 30. Led by 35 year old Bryan Ruiz they are winless in their last 11 games. Guadeloupe are made up of mostly lower division French leaguers but they have 6 straight wins and I expect them to give Costa Rica a hard time.

    Panama v Qatar
    Qatar are a team that is very familiar with each other as many are teammates at club level in Qatar. They are also the Asian federation champs and look to impress at the World Cup. Panamas defense is old and may have problems with Qatar's speed. I think this is a feeler game as both will play not to lose having a very winnable match versus Granada. I like the draw here

    Honduras v Granada
    Honduras come into the match having just tied Mexico where as Granada lost to Antigua & Montserrat. The Spice boys (I'm not kidding) off Granada are ranked 160th in the world alongside the soccer powerhouses like Fiji & Tahiti. Honduras should roll here;

    Trinidad v El Salvador
    I think we see a little bit of recency bias in this line. Trinidad did get a draw with Mexico but looking at the stats 17% possession out shot 30-4 tells a different story. If it was not for the T&T keeper that would have been ugly. El Salvador won their opener and with Mexico on tap will want maximum points here. El Salvador stats show 69% possession and they out shot Guatemala 21-6. I see a 1-0 or 2-0 win for El Salvador.

    The last time these sides met Mexico won 3-0 last year. Mexico also comes into the game with 4 straight clean sheets. There is no value on the ML, no value on win to nil or even the AH. So I'm getting creative with correct scores;

    Canada v Haiti
    This is pretty much a straight forward handicap. Canada beat Haiti in Haiti 1-0 in a world cup qualifier last month and then won at "home" in the USA 3-0 to advance. I would have bet them to win to nil but its priced at evens and I was looking for +120 minimum. Keeping it simple for this one;

    USA v Martinique
    When I first saw these odds I almost fell of my chair. This is not Brazil vs San Marino. Yeah the Americans will win this but tell me who on this American squad is going to score? The USA did not impress with a 1-0 win vs Haiti but they were solid in defense. The last time in the 2017 Gold Cup we saw a 3-2 win for the USA v Martinique. Too much value on the minnows here to frustrate the USA;

    The Guadeloupe side consists mainly of amateurs that should not trouble the Jamaicans. Even thou Jamaica played poorly versus Suriname they beat them 2-0. They can do one better against the weakest side in the group.

    Costa Rica v Suriname
    Once again Costa Rica is getting too much respect. They are old, 2 wins in past 18 games versus the mighty Curacao & Guadeloupe. The last game was the first time they managed to score more than 2 goals in 2 years. Suriname actually had 53% possession versus Jamaica. I'm making this my biggest bet of the Gold cup so far.

    Granada v Qatar
    Qatar come into this match on the back of a 3-3 result vs Panama. If they are to progress from the group stage they will need maximum points. Qatar is undefeated in the past 9 games winning 7 and drawing 2. The Spice boys have lost 3 in a row and should pose no threat. I do like goals here as Granada does attack so;

    Both sides will come into this game with a not to lose approach. Panama with a point in the bag and Granada on tap will play a counterattack approach and I expect Honduras to dominate possession.Head to head 3 of the past 4 games had only a single goal scored. I have a slight lean on Honduras, and I do expect a very tight game.

    A meaningless game that is being played for pride if anything else. Both sides have been eliminated. 4 of the past 5 matches for Haiti have gone over where as Martinique have given up 10 goals in their past 2 games. I see both sides playing a loose game 3-1 final for Haiti.

    Canada v USA
    Both nations have already qualified for the next round and will face Jamaica or Costa Rica. The victor gets to win the group. I don't think it matters to either side who they will face as both will be favourite. Canada has scored 39 goals in the past 8 games that is almost 5 a game but their defense is shaky so I think both score.

    The last 5 games for Mexico zero goals against. The last 7 head to head between both nations, Mexico wins all seven & 6 of which by 2 or more goals. El Salvador has already qualified they need a point to advance and a win gives them top spot in the Group. I say 3-0 Mexico

    Trinidad still has a chance to advance but in reality both these sides are gone. Guatemala has only managed one goal scored in the past 3 games. That mirrors Trinidad who also has only scored one in their past 3. With not much to play for and little offensive power i see a draw.

    Both sides here have already been eliminated and basically have nothing to play for. Suriname impressed but just could not get a result. I think they get the win here, but no value for me on the ML. I like the value in the total at almost evens for the 2.5. Of the past 8 games 7 went over for Suriname, & 6 of the past 8 games for Guadeloupe have gone over. Guadeloupe also has scored in each of their past 8 games. Hoping for a nice open game, 2-1 for Suriname.

    Both teams have already advanced to the next round. The loser of this game gets to play the USA where as the winner plays Canada. A draw & Costa Rica wins the group. Jamaica has been under performing in their past 2 games. Is this going to continue against a side that I have feed fading the whole tournament?. I think both sides get knocked out next round.
