Why are there so many goals this tournament?

    The weather? Ball? Voodoo?

I've only seen a couple world cups buut don't recall goals flying in at this rate.
Anyone got a plausible theory as to why?

just the law of averages. last world cup saw fewer than normal goals, now were seeing it even out.

It's more because the game of soccer in terms of how it's played is more and more trending towards a more offensive minded way to play the game. Basicly the way the leagues look is starting to influence the way the players keep playing when they get to tournaments aswell.

also more quality teams in general. 22 of the top 23 teams are in this tournament (only ukraine is missing) meaning the talent pool is spread out amongst all the games and fewer less quality teams are competing, with of course a few exceptions (cameroon, iran)

this talent leads to more crisp passes, better crosses, and overall greater offensive play amongst the midfielders and attackers.
