Mexico -2 and Game Total over 3!!!!

Mexico is at home with mostly domestic players playing in the match. They will be hungry for goals and looking to take a big lead with them to New Zealand.

They will not be taking any risk and will run the score up. New Zealand is not a team that is up to Mexico's standards and I think if they do score it may only be 1 goal.

    I see this ending 4-0 or 4-1

    Let's get it!

GL. I would be surprised to see a goalfest in that one. Mexico is an ugly team and so is New Zealand.

I agree that both teams are ugly, but New Zealand has to be the worst of the two.

I like that Mexico decided not to call up some of their star players like Javier Hernandez, Hector Moreno, Giovani dos Santos, and Andres Guardado.

9 of the 11 starters play domestically and they will be playing their best to try to earn a spot on the world cup roster.

I'm from New Zealand and we should get thrashed in this game, it's going to take a miracle to come away with a draw.

Possession will be something like 70-30, shots 25-4 corners 10-1, complete domination. NZ are going to park the bus that's a certainty I'm hoping Mexico can't break them down but with out Winston Reid in central defense it will be extremely tough, New Zealand aren't scoring a goal today unless it's from a set peice which they shouldn't get many of.

The form has been dreadful leading up to this game, we drew 0-0 with the MLS side Chivas, yes Chivas! They missed a penalty as well! Obviously Mexico haven't been in good form but the class difference here should be obvious from the start.

With the exception of friendlies and 1 match against Martinique(!), you gotta go back 10+ matches to have Mexico scoring more than 2 goals.

Exactly. What an idiotic move not to call Javier Hernandez, he is their only player with a scoring touch. Wow, I did not know that. Really tempting to take a draw and under after learning this. Mexican domestic league is a complete bush league.

I agree, but compared to the New Zealand players they will look like Premier League players.

I actually think using the local players only and getting in over two weeks of practice with them will help Mexico gel earlier in this game, which should lead to more immediate goal scoring opportunities. There's no way NZ wins this game and even a draw seems like a stretch. Sportsbook has Mexico at -200 1H, that seems like a pretty appealing offer compared to the -909 FT line. I do agree that more than 2.5 goals go in, 4-0 would be my prediction...reclaim the home field and set themselves up for an easy second leg. Mexico will not let off the throttle if they're in the zone.

Posters in this thread must be forgetting the Kiwi's performance in Group Stages of WC2010. Squad hasn't changed much if at all since then, and all the pressure is on Mexico. Sure their chances of scoring is slim but a set-piece is all it takes. Apply pressure baby!

they draw italy, paraguay and slovakia with a very solid defence.
okay this was over 3 years ago, but i feel confident about "under 3 goals" at 1.80 odds.

Yep, you got it. And again, the squad hasn't changed much if at all. These guys know each other and have played together for a long time.

Valid point, but Mexico has a hungry squad at home with something to prove. If (medium to big sized if) Mexico gets a goal in the first 20-30 minutes, NZ will have to try to score which should open up the game.

im glad someone brought this up, a lot changes in 3 or 4 years, ask italy. since 2010 this team has lost to new caledonia and uae in competitive play. playing in azteca is quite an experience if you have never faced it before. thanks to the usa, the reset button has been hit for mexico.

Sorry, but your analysis is way off. If Mexico manages to score in the first 20-30 min, which I doubt, Kiwi's will not change their game plan. They are coming to Mexico to keep the damage at a minimum so one goal or no goal the Kiwi's are sticking to their tactics.

All Whites missing 2 of their 3 best players (Winston Reid, Chris Wood, and Marco Rojas)?

    Am I reading this right?

    Sorry, 31 minutes

Now we'll see if NZ plays any more aggressively. I think you're right though about their best, and maybe only shot, is off a set piece.

82% Possession from Mexico! They are dominating! Should be at least 3-0 or 4-0 right now, but i'll take the 2-0. Strong 2nd half coming up from Mexico!

You were so right dude. I should have remembered that New Zealand has actually lost to New Caledonia in their regional championship in 2012; and New Caledonia then lost to Tahiti and we saw that team in the Confed. Cup. Hindsight 20/20. Mexico 4+ goals half-time bet for me.

Yes, Mexico could have 4-5 goals. Look the first half win is already done and .5 more goals looks like as much of a lock as is possible in gaming. Fight it all you like, maybe you'll be right in the end on the over, but there's no way NZ can sit back and try to play D, they're getting killed.
