European qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup consists of a group stage and a play-off round, providing 13 UEFA member nations for the 32-team final tournament in Brazil.
    Qualifying group stage
Matches will take place between 7 September 2012 and 15 October 2013 with eight groups of six teams and one of five. The nine group winners qualify directly for the finals and the eight runners-up with the best record against the teams finishing first, third, fourth and fifth in their section going into the play-offs.
    Play-offs
The eight teams will be drawn into four pairings for two-legged ties played from 15 to 19 November 2013. If scores are level after the second leg the team with the most away goals qualify, whether after 90 minutes or extra time. The four winners qualify for the finals.
    Final tournament
The allocation for other confederations is: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) 4.5, Confederation of African Football (CAF) 5.0, Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) 3.5, South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) 4.5, Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) 0.5, and one slot for the hosts Brazil. The teams will be drawn into eight groups of four with the top two going into the knockout phase.

USA still has 4 qualification matches to go in their group, however they are currently leading the group so the chances of them qualifying are pretty high.

not enough fresh talent plus the size...the teams are getting bigger (taller, stronger)...short mexicans are staying the same...skillful but not enough size.

12 poor fukks have been playing poker every day for the past 8 months to qualify. So yes, US will field a team in the SBR World Cup.

Put it this way, if we don't qualify for world cup, considering our group in qualifying every year is a goddamn joke of poor ass Latin countries, we don't deserve to go.

Fukkin' shit, if one of those countries makes a good player - we buy them and put them in stripes.

The don't "get" an easy bracket, they're part of CONCACAF:

Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football

I don't think USA can win more than one game in works cup

I think 2 wins might advance you in the pool , not sure though

I would put the US about 95% in, four games remaining with 2 at home. Top of the table, if they miss out it would be a bigger shock than the ball between Buckners legs.

Because they have no reliable forward. When Hernandez is not firing they are not scoring. Also there is immense pressure on the coach and he should of been fired about 3 months ago.

JJ, we probably have the greatest depth of offensive talent on a national team.

We don't have any Jordan's though. Just a bunch of really good players.

We need a Jordan type talent. I am hoping Eddie Johnson could be that, but that is extraordinarily doubtful.

Our goalie situation is very good. However, we don't have the defenders to keep up with the top nation's Jordan's and LeBrons.

It's basically how Spain feels in basketball against the USA.

Jozy Altidore is probably the only hope of any Jordan talent. 23 y/o big, fast, strong can score goals. Needs to get at least 15 goals this year for Sunderland to build his confidence in EPL.

Johnson is old and always played out of position. He's in a resurgence and could of been a lot better if he had not pissed away much of his 20's with poor attitude and performances.

USA is still unable to develop high quality talent. Mainly this is down to our university system vs. other countries club system. Development is not the same, training and improvement are vastly inferior. More focus needs to be put on skills and less on physical stats. USA has basically been a counter attack get goals from set pieces team in past World Cups. You can never win the WC playing this way. Until our standard of player because better we will be limited with attacks and keeping the ball.

USA is a great team in CONCACAF and a top 20 team in the world, but not elite by any measure. 2014 in Brazil will likely end in a 1st KO round elimination like 2010.

First KO elimination would be interesting.

That would fuel enough of a love for the sport in the group stages, to draw our nations attention and most likely make us feel satisfied in the effort.

But as I type that, it's clear that type of mindset is the exact example of why we aren't on the other countries level.

While Russia has a passion to cut off a persons head and play soccer with it. Our passion for soccer is in MILF's wearing sweaters and driving Range Rovers to watch their daughter/son kick a ball around a feild with limited contact. That, along with title 9, explain why US womens soccer is so much further ahead.
