What do you think of John Terry's suspension and 350k+ fine for saying mean stuff?

He was cleared in criminal court but the English Football Association suspended him 4 games and fined him 356k for allegedly calling an opposing soccer player a "penetrating black oyster".

I'm wondering how people who are racially sensitive feel about these penalties

It's not about being sensitive/insensitive. It's a business decision, "protecting the brand". The NFL is famous for it. The only color they care about is green, and they'll do anything necessary to keep/maximize the flow of cash. Pissing off any segment of your customer base by a perceived indifference to racism, sexism, animal cruelty, whatever, affects that bottom line. Money is king.

I like the way the (former) England Captain gets a 4 match ban for calling another englishman a F****** Black C*** just a year after a South American calls a Fenchman, who happens to play for the FA's favourite team, Man Utd, "Negrito" and gets an 8 match ban, though a significantly less fine.

Makes you wonder who the real racists are. Some lesson it sends out to kids though - "If you are going to call someone "Black" then at least add the F and C word as well as it is only half as bad as calling them Black on its own

Actually in the John Terry case, the initial complaint was made by a member of the crowd who heard him say what he said - thats why the issue was dealt with in a criminal court before the FA could get involved - then there was video evidence of him mouthing the words as well.
