The only way to ensure you are betting on a fair game, is to stick to English professional football, the top Western European divisions and high-profile international games. Everything else is prone to be fixed. A recent game between Bulgaria and Estonia, which are middle class European teams, was fixed for 2-2 (4 penalties).

That's why I only bet totals or draws on friendly games. 300 games fixed out of 10,000 games or more being played yearly is not much.

When FIFA investigates 300 games, that means almost every game out of the 10k was corrupted in some way. We're talking about an organization that has been extremely stubborn when it comes to investigating corruption.

They will investigate but the only proof they have is irregular betting patterns. They can't prove if the game was fixed based on irregular betting patterns.

fifa investigation in fixing euro soccer/football games, sounds like the equivalent to mlb investigating steroids in baseball. do they really want to find to truth?

Nothing new, some leagues are created and exist for fixing needs only, more than 50 % of the games in the U19 leagues across Europe are fixed. They are available for betting in most of the asian books with limits like 250 euro with 5 books offering them in-live, you can easily seduce players with salaries 300-400 euros per month.

There are some dirty leagues, especially in Greece and Germany, but Italy and Spain aren't far behind. I love soccer, but it's has some serious issues in the lower leagues

Like this shit hasn't been going on for years! And FIFA is "now" starting to investigate? I'm sure they just want a raise in their percentage of the take!

Sincerely hope and expect many of these 300 games to be of Italian origin -- so many Serie A n Serie B matches showing as odds on to DRAW before match is most unusual as the average draw odds pre match are approx 5/2 (+250) in 99% of matches

It's amazing how pervasive the concept of soccer game fixing has become. Did you really just look at the 300 number and say, "that's not too bad?"

    2. Bundesliga 4-5 years ago. Most Bundesliga players earn enough money and would not risk their career for 10000-20000 €.

Just to give you an idea only for Europe. There are 50 countries plus/minus. Each country has 4-5 divisions. Each division has 14-18 teams. So every weekend you have 50 games per country times 50 countries this is 2500 games per weekend. Now multiply that by 30-40 times a year and you have 100,000 games per year. That's why fixing 300 out of 100,000 is not that bad.

The Italian football federation said on Monday that a Serie A fixture between Chievo and Sampdoria was not under investigation despite suspicious betting patterns in the build-up to Sunday's game. Concerns were raised last week after large sums of money were staked on the match finishing in a draw, with one Italian senator calling for the game to be suspended. The fixture finished goalless.

"Exactly as predicted," reported Corriere della Sera on Monday. "Zero-zero, zero real chances, zero desire to harm the opponent, zero anything." Not only had the two teams failed to produce a goal but they had managed one shot on goal each in 90 minutes. A number of bookmakers had declined to offer odds on the fixture and others stopped taking bets. More than £715,000 of bets on the draw were matched on the Betfair exchange – a figure many times larger than the average for Serie A fixtures. William Hill withdrew the game from its lists on 29 March after betting on the draw saw it traded in from 2-1 to 4-6.

I hope Serie A will be cleaned forever. That league is the headquarters of the fixed games.
