Not saying you are not right. But at first thought that scenario sounds backward and potentially dangerous to me.

It was awesome being around at the birth of the web. No courses to learn what to do, and no one knew the limits of what could be done. There were no tools to make it easy for anyone not really committed to being a part of it to muscle in. It gave me a small insight into what Linus Torvalis meant when he said he felt like a god when creating code.

I have been super lucky with my timing in life being there at the start of things. First time was a couple of years after leaving school the IBM PC first came out. I had a panic moment that I had made a bad career choice and all the kids behind me would be learning about computers in school and I would be left way behind. So I walked into one of the first IBM pc dealers in Australia and convinced them to give me a job as a service technician of all things. Long story short, I was actually in at the very ground level and that made it very easy to progress fast. The greed is good 80s were great to me just by being in the right place at the right time.

Next time was taking a sales manager job at a company who had the local rights to distribute Racal products, which was pretty much the first mobile phones down here. We could barely ship them fast enough without even having to sell anything for a few years.

Then the internet came and I managed to get a job at Microsoft supporting their X25 MSN network in Australia and from there managed to get picked up by the govt telecom company to help setup a support department for their first ISP service. A couple of years later I learned enough and started sitting in desk at home in my underwear being a "webmaster". Again, at a time people would throw money at anyone who even sounded like they knew anything about web commerce and traffic generation. Haven't had a "real" job ever since. Not in this century. Didn't parlay any of that into being super rich but feel blessed by the quality of life being in the right places at the right times has gifted me.

If you can see the value in quantum computing before most others, jump in and ride that wave as it sure sounds like another of those major tech based world changing things like my three.

Big Brother scenario was unintentional by me, was referencing AWS because they are a popular provider. Not sure if there will be as much competition as the traditional cloud computing sector, but I'd imagine more operators will get involved if there is demand and money to be made.

I learn everything from the internet, not sure how people figured things out before it. Cool there was opportunity back then for lots of folks, even nowadays you can find success in the IT industry without a formal education if you are capable.

Never heard of x25, never learned much about TCP/IP and all the layers either. Wonder if there will be anything after IPv6.

Trying to board the machine learning train, think there will be more opportunities there than QC and it is better aligned with my skillset and experience.

Used to go on those Free Tours for the adult websites back in the day, you could click Next Page and see 3-4 pages of women before they asked for a credit card.

Penis enlargement ads were huge back then (unintentional pun)

Wolf isn’t wrong there’s a long way to go, but they sure are tackling the problems from multiple angles and multiple different ways.

That basically did not happen with conventional computers, there really is only one way to make processor, etc.

I think the biggest obstacle here is decoherence and it’s my guess the answer is going to come from the material sciences departments.

Definitely a long way to go but the potential is amazing.

Exploiting the spooky action at a distance is so futuristic.

My original post and internal thoughts didn't highlight the importance of cloud computing. Renting time on a quantum computer seems more logical and cost effective than owning a quantum computer. I'm walking back on the notion that the high cost of ownership would be a barrier, given the trend towards cloud computing. It might be a deterrent but not a "barrier".

An attractive woman once asked if I was more interested in breasts or legs.

I told her that I was mainly into feet and anal.
I'm no longer welcome at that KFC restaurant.

I just read an interview with Mick Foley.
He said the only move he wouldn't sign off on was the German Suplex.
He said he refused to be thrown backwards as anything could go wrong on landing.

I found that interesting that this was coming from one of the GOAT's who has done swan dives from 100 feet up into barbed wire and flames.

There must be something to what he said though.
