I've been on some tangents lately, watching some youtube videos, lectures, and overviews. I've mostly been focusing on particle physics and astrophysics.

When I was young they said I'd be a lawyer, in high school I thought I'd go into astrophysics. In college I turned financial, went on to an investment bank. But It was then I learned some things about sports and those markets, that changed my focus, big time.

Star Talks and domain of science are good channels for general overviews.

This was good, from 3 years ago, a terrific presentation...

Not going to lie, after understanding how math is applied (not necessarily understanding all the math) to how we are perceiving the universe from our observations and predictions, some of which has been going on for a very long time, I see us at a certain limit.

I am increasingly leaning towards the idea that we could actually, based on what we have understood about how we are seeing the universe, be in a "simulation" and I've definitely bought into the idea that we could be living in one of many universes.

Many say the idea of a multiverse is untestable but I'm not so sure. Technology is advancing and something like an imprint on the cosmic microwave background or in gravity waves themselves could provide predictable evidence...maybe I'm in the wrong profession...lol.

As far as a simulation, well there have been giants whose shoulders they stand on that have hinted as such, long before we ever built particle accelerators and tested quantum theories...

I want to add to this. No matter what technological advances we make, it's very possible that my thoughts on where that evidence lies could actually, due to the expansion of space time, already be beyond our horizon.

It's possible that the evidence is lost to us forever, not because we can't develop a way to detect it, but because the nature and physics of what we observe the universe to be may have already hidden it from us.

Notice I keep saying "of what we observe" and talk about our understanding of what we are seeing. This is because perhaps, at its basic level, we are not seeing the real physical world, but an illusion or simulation of a world in which we are seeing the information that underlies it.

These are not just crazy thoughts, these are theories with observational and mathematical evidence to back them, or at the very least, are guiding where they are looking next. Like I said, we are at a certain limit in our understanding of the universe.

If space-time has pushed further evidence beyond our horizon, and we can only (practically) accelerate particles to a certain energy level, then we may be left with just these questions, and others like darke matter and dark energy, and nothing more.

Like I said, I've been on some tangents lately.

Not going to lie, was making jokes about the Matrix when I read you mention "simulation". Kept the initial reaction to myself though for a bit until I learned more. To my surprise after I finished the first video, the lecturer actually referenced simulations and said something like "bit like the Matrix", un fukkin real.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "simulation." In terms of encoded quantum information all around us or that something is "simulating" the laws of nature and existence? I barely understood the videos, felt a little better about my lack of understanding after the dude used words like "dizzying" and "confusing" to describe the study of the field.

Thrown off a little by the Einstein quote, it's not entirely clear how closely related to the idea that we are living in a simulation. Did Einstein actually suggest we are living in a simulation? Is that your own interpretation of the quote and how it applies to modern times and understanding? Do respected members of the scientific community share your "interpretation" or "reaction" to the quote?

No, the holographic and simulation theories were def not around with Einstein but quantum mechanics was.

Many things have been attributed to the quote, so who knows all he meant. Some think he was mocking philosophers who question our existence. Eisntein liked concrete reality, and thus hated the quantum world.

But one thing Einstein did recognize was that what happens at quantum level is not what happens at larger scales and that what we precieve as reality simply isn't at smaller scales.

He also recognized issues with time and our experience of reality.

Those more concrete items are what I think of with that quote.

Also, I mention simulation but I was really talking about a few different things, like mulitple universes and even holographic theory.

As I understand it, holgraphic principles aren't so much based on the idea of illusion, per se, but of information that the universe breaks down into. When it comes ot a computer simulation, that's a little different and based on the idea that we could one day do it so it could be being done now.

Remember I specifically mention ways of explaining "what we understand about how we see the universe" so it doesn't necessarily mean we're in a hologram, for example, but it sure does solve some of those issue with combining quantum mechanics and relativity.

It's our perception of space time that is illusory to us. The facts that dimension can be relative, like length and time, are pretty crazy observations and conclusions.

    Illusory indeed.

The speed of light in a vacuum being constant has some serious implications. Here's another good one. There is a deeper related 12 hour class that covers a lot of the math behind it, but this is a good presentation of relativity...

There is a video about of Elon Musk talking about the likelihood we are living in a matrix style simulation that is easy to understand as a normal human being.

Went to a potluck pool party yesterday, I figured I’d treat everyone there to my BBQ beans. Had people coming up to me saying, “OMG! I’ve never really had real beans before, just canned $#!T. What’s the recipe?” Texted them these pictures.

    Good luck ‘Fly Me’ crew!

    BTW, nice spread knuckles…..

That's a heaping bowlful of farting.
Black beans are the best farting beans, pinto beans too.

So, I'm in my office/spare bedroom looking at NFL, Ally is napping in the bedroom.
The door is open maybe one inch.
Tessie Dog anvil heads her way in and he goes straight for the waste paper basket looking for scraps of food.
I tell her "No food for you Tessie Dog", she turns away and heads out the door.
She notices the door is closed except maybe for a quarter of an inch.
I'm looking at her and I'm like "Great, now I gotta get up and open the door for her.

Before I could get up, Tessie Dog tugs on my robe hanging from the hook on the door.
She pulls on the robe to open the door and leaves all by herself.

    That's one smart doggy.
