Toody and Muldoon from Car 54 Where Are You? Great soundtrack as well. Can still be seen on many venues , 59 years after the last episode. Two NYC cops that got the job done, eventually.

Very influential show, a lot of today's crime drama's 'borrowed' Steven Bochco's approach to crime dramas.

IMO, Bochco was the second on the GOAT list, only behind Dick Wolf.
(Read the bio novel, very interesting dude, a prick to work for though)

Bochco than created NYPD Blue after Hill Street Blue's epic run.

If you're a fan of crime drama's, you'll notice executive producers, the great ones, will keep on using (hiring) actors, ancillary producers and writers, etc.

The common themes are almost every one of their series consist of ensemble casts, not one or two leading men or ladies.
    And most episodes are procedurals.

Point I'm making here is Dennis Franz came out of Bochco's Hill Street Blues, was so good in that Bochco reused Franz in NYPD Blue.
Sipowicz, one of the most iconic TV cops in TV history.
I can't sing the praises of Dick Wolf enough.
I named the current eleven he has going now; you can google his prior works.
His body of work, resume if you would, is astounding, beyond comprehension, mind boggling.
True genius at what he does, always five years ahead.
One episode of L&O he created dealt with Sars (COVID) twenty-five years ago, that pretty much outlined what happened worldwide last year.

But I digress, I am the king of digression and brevity was never my forte (don't ya know?)

Wolf, nine times out of ten will almost reuse talent that's been loyal to him as well.
L&O (the original, the one that started it all) might remember season one, the original cast was, Chris Noth (Mike Logan) who went on to do many other projects with Wolf, and a fellow by the name of George Dzundza (Max Greevy)

Dzundza was outstanding, but he thought he was the leading start of the show, he didn't understand Wolf's concept of an ensemble cast, and got himself shitcanned. (Enter Jerry Orbach)

You know who was in the original L&O cast, some 25 years ago and is still working today on SVU and L&O Organized Crime?
    Dann Florek (Cragen)

Not just actors, Peter Jankowski, Wolf's right hand man on the production side, has been with Wolf too pretty much forever.
I love the guy, great guy too in real life, always directs the accolades to his writers and researchers, who he says without brilliant writing, I am nothing.

    So true.

Writers make the TV and film world go round, not actors, no actor, even Brando, can carry a shit written script.

    Th Wire: McNulty and Bunk

True Detective: Matthew and Woody guys… can’t remember their names but I can drink with them all day long listening to them ramble all night long.

And to get the job done, but technically not a cop but works for police dept… Dexter.

Loved Sledge Hammer. I recall ABC doing a promo where they said "only one man is brave enough to take on Bill Cosby at 8 p.m. on Thursday." The show got pounded in the ratings, but was still great. The black cop was the perfect straight man, and Anne-Marie Martin could rock a tight skirt.

Once again, an executive producer, which Jack Webb was at the end of Dragnet staying loyal to Kent McCord, who pretty much got his start as a routine cop on Dragnet.

Too many people on here singing McNulty's praises when in reality the baddest cop on The Wire was Lester Freeman by a mile.
