A very large percentage of Americans...

...are more worried about reopening too quickly
than not opening quickly enough, survey says

excerpts from May 08 USA Today article:
    (source link at bottom)

71% say they are more concerned by the government
lifting social distancing restrictions too quickly...

only 29% say they are worried restrictions are
    not being lifted quickly enough.

only 14% believe it’s safe right now to end stay-at-home orders,
    35
    %
believe it won't be safe to lift those orders for several weeks
30% believe it won't be safe for several months

only 10% believe it’s safe right now to allow meetings or gatherings
of more than 10 people, like sporting events, concerts, and conferences.

only 10% believe it’s safe right now for businesses like theaters,
    bars and restaurants to reopen

69% of Republicans do not believe it will be safe to end the orders
for either several weeks, several months or six or more months.

    Survey between April 23 - 29, with 6,708 Americans.

I wonder how they'll feel when people start getting desperate and violent crime starts increasing. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

You raise a very good point (with or without the violent crime).

I would agree that the same poll questions asked of about 6,000 Americans
say in 3 weeks - at the end of May - might well reveal different results,
as the survey merely suggests the way people feel last week of April.

Mind you, with many states now reopening, *IF* the covid-19 infection
shows no real sign of slowing and the death toll continues at the current
unprecedented rate of about 1,900 - 2,000 per day (or worse!) then it
would be interesting to see how the majority feels then

This just shows the complete pussification of the U.S. I can't believe it, we've gone from "Nothing to fear but fear itself" to "I only have a 99.5% chance of surviving so let me stay home and watch netflix until all the risk of living is mitigated out of my life." It really makes me sad to see. Add that to the total indifference of the country that caused this bullshit, and I can easily see why China will be the new ruling empire in about 20 years. So get used to being told what to do people because even though we call ourselves the home of the brave, it just isn't so anymore. Glad that I'm at the end on my life and will probably check out within 20 years if all goes well.

are you saying that we shouldn't listen to the 29% of people???

only 14% of the US population is black... Should we not listen to them either??

    Donald Trump, Feb 26:

"When you have 15 people, and the 15
    -- within a couple of days --
is going to be down to close to zero,
    That’s a pretty good job we’ve done!"

Deaths. Not cases. Totally my mistake.

Half the counties don't have any coronavirus deaths.
